hi guys im new here
my friend over clock my cpu P42.8ghz to 3.6ghz
im new to pc's as this is my first computer ive had it a yr and just started to learn about mods n stuff
is 2.8 to 3.6 any good ??
can i go further
and how do i know the difference in performance i havent noticed anything yet? (i did back up a dvd and it seem to do it a lot quicker) are these the sort of things that would change ?

Hi there,

Thats a good overclock but it depends on the components in your system if you want to overclock further.


Fill out your system specs on your User CP page and they'll show up below your posts. Thats a handy feature on these forums as other members can find out what any problems might be and it saves asking questions like;

What is you PSU, what speed is your RAM etc...

ok ill look into that i dont really know what i have in my pc ill have to find out
some how i have all my instruction books so i can get some info from that
thanx for your advice and ill get back with the specs

Welcome to Overclock.net


Well with some quick calculations i think you should be able to reach 3.8~ish.
Your RAM is (i assume) running on a 3:4 divider so if you want to get that running at it's normal speed (200mhz) you'll need to up the FSB to about 270.
It should be able to overclock a little bit as well so you'll prolly get a bit higher as well.
Other then that you should check if your voltage stays under 1.75 and your CPU temps are below 55°C (at load).
