Hello,

i received my new system yesterday, this is it:

2 x KINGSTON HyperX (4096 mb, 1600 mhz, CL9, 1.65 v, non-ecc, unbuffered)
1 x INTEL Core i5 2500K (3.3 ghz, 6 mb, s1155, 95 watt, boxed)
1 x MSI RADEON HD6970 (880 mhz, 2048 mb, DDR5, 5500 mhz, 256 bit, 11, fan)
1 x POWERCOLOR RADEON HD6970 (880 mhz, 2048 mb, DDR5, 5500 mhz, 256 bit, 11, fan)
1 x OEM Assembling and Configuration
1 x SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 (1000 gb, sata/300, 7200 rpm, 32 mb, 3.5")
1 x COOLERMASTER CM 690 II (black, no psu, atx)
1 x MICROSOFT Windows 7 Home Premium OEM (64, OEM, NL, SP1)
2 x NEC DVD ReWriter AD-7260S (24x, sata, black)
1 x EDIMAX Wlan Card (300 mbps, pci)
1 x SCYTHE Mugen 2 Rev B SCMG-2100 (s775, sAM2, s478, s939, s754, s940, s1366, sAM3, s1156)
1 x CORSAIR HX (850 watt, atx, sli ready, modular)
1 x MSI P67A-GD65 v3

i ran the basic 3D mark11 en got 8703 points, is that normal? Or is it supposed to be higher?

Also, the physics score was 'only 5500', is that normal for an I5 2500k?? it seems pretty low.

Can anyone please tell me in simple terms how i can safely oc the system for my specific setup? i have never oc'ed a pc before, but these new cpu's seem to be easily oc'able. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I just want a standard oc without much risk!

if anyone could give me some specific bios adjustments, that would be great.

I've seen oc tutorials for this chip, but i'm scared to try it. i don't want to do to muc, you know?

Definitely reference that guide kev posted! SB should be super easy to OC so try not be intimidated. You should be able to get a higher score with an OC, but overclocking memory and GPU I believe would help too. You got a pretty darn nice setup though regardless to any OC.

-Grab yourself CoreTemp/RealTemp, Prime95, CPUZ
-Notepad, write down any settings you change for each overclock.
-Start at semi low OC and work your way up to something thats obviously still stable and that youre comfortable at.
-Might want to underclock the RAM from its rated speed until after you are finished with the CPU just so you can rule it out in case the OC isnt stable.

Are these good temps and what temps should i max get before it gets dangerous?

what's the first thing i should try now?
That's absolutely fine - most people on here would recommend running below 80 degrees celsius (load).

With that cooler you should be able to run at 4.7 ish easily at below 70 degrees (load) (depending how much voltage your 2500k sucks up).

just some settings in the bios i can change plz. I really want to get some specifics although i know every chip is different.
I feel compelled to say read a guide first

But if you just want a rough and ready overclock, try increasing the multiplier to 42ish and leaving everything else at auto and see how stable you are and what core voltage it sets it at.

So jealous you managed to reach 4.6Ghz on 1.248V , It took 1.39v For me to reach 4.7Ghz stable

The costa rica chips seem a little better, yeah.

Any less than 1.248v and I get miscalcs in prime after 10 hours or so.

My goal was always to get it at 4.5 ghz

I have it at 4.2 now with just setting ram to 9-9-9-27 at 1.55V
and vcore to 1.2V

Everything else is left at auto, what should i do now to get it to 4.5? Some small changes in voltages? if so, to what would you recommend and say... yeah, that'll be stable and with good temps.

I know each chip is diff...
