New or Older drivers 8800GTS?

As I've read here in some threads, some say that older drivers give better performance than newer ones. For example, if anyone else out there has the 8800GTS, which drivers do you think are best?

the 178.24's were a favorite for many. However if you are going multi monitor or just want the newest ones out there you should try the 180.43's
180.43 has better performance in some games, but it has been unstable for me with my 2 8800GTSs, and I can no longer control fan speed through the nVidia Control Panel and must use RivaTuner (not that RivaTuner is bad).

EDIT: My 8800GTSs are g92 512mb. You didn't specific in your thread subject which one you meant.
