Ok, so I will be building my next machine sometime after Christmas. I've been looking at components but I'm a little unsure of compatibility on some parts, and was hoping I could get some advice from the folks who know.

Anyway, here's the basics of what I'm looking into getting myself:

Intel Core 2 DUO Extreme Edition X6800
Asus P5N32-SLi Premium WiFi PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
GeIL 2GB PC6400 800MHz (CAS 4-4-4-12)
Gainward BLISS GeForce 7950 GX2 1024MB GDDR3
OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
CoolerMaster Stacker 830

Those pieces alone add up a hefty bill, so I'm going to use my SATA and Optical drives from my current desktop. I'm also pretty sure I'll want to eventually get another 2GB of the same DDR2 and SLi another GX2 in there.

I'm pretty up on the actual building of machines but when it comes to hardware compatibility, I'm a little rusty. So I guess it just leaves the question: Does this look like a solid start for my next build, or is there any advice or changes I should make? I've read endless reviews on countless components, I think I've scrambled my brains...

Any help is appreciated.
I think DX10 will be out a bit past then, so keep that in mind with the video card. Also AMD's next line may be rolling out then. Basically, thats a great computer now, but in 3 months, there is bound to be better parts.

That motherboard will not overclock very well.....its an nF4 chipset. Intels don't seem to take kindly to them.

Also, why get the x6800? If money isn't an issue, I would get it.....but the 6600 or 6700 are gauranteed to overclock past the x6800, and can be found for 1/3 to 1/2 of the price.

Also, the 7950GX2 is only usefull on INSANE resolutions......(1600/1200, is not insane).

I'd get an x1900xt/x1950xtx or maybe a 7900GTX/7950GT

The x1900xt will be faster than the 7950gt and will be very close to the 7900gtx, but remember dx10 should be coming out at/around the beginning of next year.

Will DX10 have a big impact on the cards then? I'm not too up on DX stuff >.> I'm not too keen in ATI, since the last one I bought blew up after a month :s so I've stuck with nVidia ever since.

I was thinking about the E6700, because it's the price is definately a bonus. I put the X6800 on the list as that is what I *really* want, but if money is an issue at the time I'd have to downgrade to the E6700.
Are there any decent Conroe/SLI motherboards that you would recommend? I seemed to have trouble finding one that supported both the Extreme Conroe and supported SLI.
