New Q9300 Overclock

Hai guyz, what's goin' on in this thread?

So I've got a system and I want to OC it. I've got a somewhat sturdy grasp on what I have to do, I just want some suggestions and to solidify a few things.

First, my specs:
Intel Q9300
Arctic Cooling Freezer7 Pro CPU Cooler
eVGA nForce 790i Ultra
4GB Patriot Extreme Performance DDR3 PC3-10666MHz memory
SLI'd BFG GeForce 8800GTS OC 512MB
Ultra X3 1000W Power Supply

Everything's stock right now, and I wanna get some more bang here. First off, I've got some questions. Do I need to adjust my RAM and CPU to overclock each, or can I just do the CPU? Also, should I overclock my memory? It's pretty fast as it is.

Now for the suggestions. I'm looking for safe overclocks. Nothing too huge, and nothing to push the limits. I'm looking to get the Q9300 around 3.0GHz, and I kinda don't care too much about the graphics cards because there's newer ones out that I want, so I'm willing to push those. What's the most important aspect to look at for gaming? Is it the CPU or the graphics cards?

Finally, does anyone know any safe overclocks for the Q9300 or the 8800GTS?

just out of curiosity, what made you buy such an expensive mobo and ram, only to skimp on the processor?
that would do 3.0ghz with only increasing fsb, leave everything at stock lol

i would get P45 board with Q9550 and push to 4Ghz with decent vcore (higher multi and more cache.. and not planning for SLI).... anyaway..

8800GTS for 750core 1100mem and 1950shader is save

EDIT: thats a nice board u have

I originally bought a 780i, but realized I couldn't get DDR3 and got pissed. I wanted a good mobo that I could stick with for a couple years, plus I didn't pay too much for it either. Under $300 I believe. And I got the processor for $240 too. Don't worry though, I've got my eyes on a QX9650.

The RAM was also not that expensive, $180 for 4GB.

You need a new CPU cooler. That AF7P will die on the QX9650 and won't do too well on your current CPU after you OC it and raise the vcore.

And, there's really very little difference between DDR2 and DDR3, except price of course.

yeah that AC7 isnt going to keep that quad cool
Well the new CPU will obvious warrant a new cooler, but that's in the future nonetheless.

Any suggestions to keep any eye out for?

not true, ive had my q6600 to 4.0 stable with a AF7, not sure how itll cool a 9650 but it shouldnt "die" on it
