Hey all,

I just built my friend a new rig and I have about a weeks' time to mess with it. please give me some advice on what to tweak to get a higher 3dmark06 score do you think 9-10k is possible on the OEM heatsink/fan?

I got a baseline 3dmark score of 6800 with just the OEM (drivers off theCD.)

here are the specs:

MB ASUS P5N32-E SLI NF680I 775 1
CPU INTEL|C2D E6400 2.13G 775 2M R 1
MEM 512Mx2|CORSAIR TWIN2X1024A-6400 1
PSU OCZ|OCZ720EVOSLI 720W RT 1
VGA MSI NX8600GTS-T2D256E-OC R 1
HD 250G|ST 7K 8M SATA2 ST3250820AS 1

what kind of reliable overclock can this setup handle?

you'd have to find out yourself. go up slowly and find your limits.

you know what tools and utilities to use when overclocking?

You will need CPUZ, coretemp, speedfan and Orthos. Orthos is for stress tersting your OC settings while sppedfan and coretemp can be used to monitor temps and voltage. CPUZ just verifies your CPU frequency and memory timings.

i use TAT to load. gives 5-10C higher temps. that way you have a safety margin, and know your CPU will never get any hotter. measured with coretemp of course.
thanks for the info so far guys, what are the acceptable temps at idle and load for the E6400?
LOL, what the hell guys, he's not going to get 10k with an 8600GTS, thats 8800GTS/GTX territory.

The 8600GTS/GT are incredibly optimized for 3dmark, i get 6.2k in 3dmark06, but i bet i'll beat that 8600GTS but a large margin in every game.
