Alright so i recently got my new 2nd gen intel i7 build up and running...and i will say...for when it works. it is amazing. but i am new to overclocking and i would like to harness the full power and carnage this rig can do...in BF:BC2 i had a BSOD random time. then used a driver cleaner and reinstalled latest beta drivers at nvidia. went back in and played for a few hours..and days later i get another BSOD same 0x124 error..with hardware. oh where to begin. i OC to 4.5 to be safe but id like to go higher..and stable too!:confused

perhaps hdd error? run hdtune to check it out, also run memtest to ensure no error in ram as well; and how long did you run the cpu stability tester for?

Do NOT bother to try to fix those hard lock ups.

It is nothing to do with your graphic cards, neither with your Drivers.

It happens both in Nvidia and ATI, but mainly in ATI with the 6000 series cards.

Here are hundreds of people complaining about it:

http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/5401851.page

It mainly happens to people who use Punkbuster + 6000 series cards + Monitoring program (MSI Afterburner, TRixxx, EVGA Precission, GPU-Z...).

If you have any of those, close it, and try to play again, hard lock ups SHOULD disappear (I say should, because they do not seem to help the issue for some people, but most people get this fixed by just closing those programs).

It is completely Punkbuster's fault, it all started on Wednesday 9th March when Punkbuster released an update.

Many people are complaining about it, but Punkbuster didnt release any fix yet, so the only "fix" we have is to close MSI Afterburner (Or Whatever you're using for a custom fan profile or OSD monitoring) and enjoy the game.

So yeah, I hope I was able to help you.

Hmm that is very interesting...I ended up spending my whole mid day and night trouble shooting..I flash my p67a-ud7 b3 bios to f3h and tests went pretty well at 4.4ghz I disabled ce1 and eist in bios because I was puzzled my CPU z was telling me my core clock was 1600ghz...some type of throttle system for chip...is it ok if i have them off...will it be okay leaving it at 4.4 always or suggest leaving on

Thats called speedstep, its lower your clock to 1600 mhz when idle to save energy and heat, but when you play games or doing app, it will auto raise to the max speed again like 4,5 ghz etc. Myself i leave it on, didnt see any problem leaving it on yet so.

also what is your core voltage, when full load.

run Prime95 on blend.
FYI an bsod code 124 means you need either more Vcore or VTT. It's not a driver issue.

Like Bratas says, 0x0124 error you need to increase your vcore.. Make sure to run 12 hours p95 blend atleast, to makse sure your OC is stable.

Now i have a question with my rig...should my fans in the 800d or add some 120 on the top rad area...replace all with higher grade fans like noctua...and should I do a push pull configuration with the h60 cooler just want to keep this rig as stable and cool as possible...tips pointers for this?

that really depends on if your temps are warranting it. The 800D is a nice case but it's high point is normally for water cooling. Sorry to say the H series coolers don't really count for true water cooling.

Yeah..deciding on a CPU cooler that I was planning to use for ocing was kind of a tough choice...I see the towers are better for peformance and how much the noctua nh d14 is so great..I wanted it but instead I sacrificed some performance for the style of the build ...the new h60 looks so great attached to that 2600 in the ud7 board...it's square low profile just went so perfect with the ferrite 24 power phase blocks...I know I won't see it but it looks preet sweet I tell you...the huge towers just take alot away from the rig...of course they are goin to cool so well...the heat has so much area to dissipate in those massive hear sinks/pipes...if I get this build stable I feel the need to go sli gtx 580..which psu should I look to get with an OC 2600k and possible 580 sli OC looking for something of quality and my 750w pc power and cooling has done me well

Haha nice man. your oc guide and review of this board...pretty much sold me on it. after many hours and staying up late doing research for my latest build i came across your signature and oohhh boy it helped me out a lot i must say. probably the bost in depth review/guide of something that was exactly what i was looking for...nice work! not to put you on your high horse or anything...but your post have been very informative as this is my first build that is designed to OC and as i read your threads they are somewhat over whelming to a newbie like myself. so im taking it one step at a time i guess...what got me a little fuzzy..was that i was concerned that the bios updates were different from your guide using the P67A-UD7 and my B3 version of the board...so im looking for f6e, f6x...f8f ect...but i realized these are not for the B3 so im like whoa...that could have been bad so i used qflash and updated to f3h and im OC at 4.4 did some gaming and it was stable...didnt run any stress tests yet..temps are on speedfan 4.43...GPU 31c and core 0-3 are mid 30c(33c-36c) this at idle with only OC.net open.. but all in all..i just want to get this CPU at a good level of performance...thanks again for the guide it totally rocks.

yea man no problem i am glad it helped.

Anyways your next step is to optimize the voltage, if you are on auto voltage. If you are on auto voltage find the max voltage it sets, and set that as the hard typed in voltage. From there move up the multiplier until it gives errors, one multi at a time. Or you could lower the voltage. but 4.4ghz is great for your first OC.

Sandybridge OCing is pretty damn straight forward man, just play around with it and you will be golden.
