if you are going to buy a card, just go CREATIVE. It's not because they are neccessarily the best, but they definately have the support of the industry. This equals less issues, glitches, problems.

I guess my Realtek 7.1 Channel Sound card sucks? I dont really know which one effects my sound more. My sound card or my speakers.

Theres really no point in buying sound cards like those unless your onboard is fried or broke. They're basicly same as integrated.

I know about other computer specs but not about sound. Tell me how a Audigy 2 Sound card would improve my sound? Would it require me to have really high end speakers to tell a difference? Is it just a slight difference in quality? etc

I would of thought thats just because better sound cards have SPUs that do sound processing so the CPU doesnt have to which frees up system resources to put on games.

Well, it's pretty cheap at 30 bucks, but the real question is what speakers are you running? If you have crap speakers, no soundcard in the world will improve your sound.

That's step one. I notice the card does have Digital Coax output, which would be good for integrating into a home theater system... and it decodes Dolby Digital, which is another plus.

I wouldn't write it off so fast.... you get what you pay for and maybe that's all you need.

Some times you dont need some High end. Thats agreed. My onboard sound seems to cope alright with my 5.1 channel speakers and Sub. Not sure how much a better sound card would do it. But this seems to do the job. But then again my onboard also decodes Dolby Digital as well. Not that I know what that means.

i agree with selectodude: I also wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole

the Audigy SE is a better deal for under $30, and if you can stretch another 15 bucks, then the Audigy 4 SE (audigy 4 OEM) is a world of a difference
