Hey guys, i have just ordered my new setup for my computer, but i have a few questions on getting the overclocking settings right and some hardware questions.

First, i want to run at 3.4ghz stable, what are the best settings to achieve this with the asus p5b deluxe.

Also, what tpe of cooling? should i stick with the stock cooling or go with a bigger air cooler. i have a big typhoon from my old setup i could possible use.

As far as ram, i need to purchase some, but am not sure what type to go with, i know the 800mhz is whats recommended, but i heard you can overclock the cheaper, lower mhz ram, if this is true, which one should i get?

Thanks in advance!!!
If you look at my system specs, you'll find that I have much of the same setup that you do. I run mine at 3.2ghz 24/7. I have gotten it stable at 3.4ghz but the temps were worrying me (Zalman 9500 aint the best cooler).

The only change to my kit I'd recommend is a different cooler (BT or something like that).

Every system is different, the best settings to try are the ones that work for you. Start at stock and slowly move up, testing as you go....make small changes, and only one at a time to aid in troubleshooting any errors.....slow and steady, that's the way to go

so i hooked up the p5b and e6600. i borrowed a cheap wgb ram and pi vid card just to get the system running.

couple of weird things

i oc the chip by changing the freq to 377. the multi is at 9. how to i lower thr multi on this board?
the voltage is at 1.30v

the chip runs at idle 55c on the stock air, my bt wont be in until friday, so im sure it will cool it better. but is this normal temps for an oc chip on the stock cooler?

the other odd thing is when i had my 74gb rapter hooked up on my old pc, windows loaded in 1.5 clicks across the screen.

but with the 2 raptors raided in 0, striped mode. it takes about 10 clicks to load, what gives? shouldnt it be faster? the raids are set up right in the bios as well.

thanks
To change the multi: Go into the BIOS and under Advanced (i think thats what its called) there is something like CPU settings. Go in there and the first option will be enabled. Disable it. This will bring up an option for setting the multiplier.

55C @ 3.4ghz on stock air is a bit hot. I'd turn the clock down until you get your BT.

I have no idea about the hdd thing..
