Just installed a VF700-CU on my GeForce 6800 and everything went smoothly except for the heat spreaders. They dont seem to stick very well and I'm afraid to install the VGA card back in my PC in fear of them falling off. I cleaned off the tiny bit of glue that was previously on the ram with 93% isopropyl alcohol too.

Anyone else had this problem

Did you let the alcohol dry long enough? It does evaporate fast, but if you used a lot it might take longer.

oh yeah. the surface was completely dry before installing the spreaders.

Anyone know if you have to wait a certain amount of time for the adhessive to cure?

They arent supposed to be sticky.
I had no problems with them myself.
But you should put it on press with a bit of strength.
And dont move it.
It wont actaully set properly until it cures.

Did you install the card immediately after putting the VF700 on? I'm wondering if the heat will help or make it worse? Right now I'm just letting it sit on my desk until told otherwise..

Ya. I did.
In like the span of 5-10 minutes of beginning.
I dont think being out will help.
Since the ram needs to get pretty hot to cure.

Good news! Installed the card about an hour and a half ago and the heat spreaders are still in tact! woot

Old temps using stock eVGA fan/heat sync = 70c load and 55c idle
new temps are 56-58c load and currently at 49c idle and dropping slowly..

Few more days and that artic silver 5 will start workin it's magic

$27.99 shipped was well worth it!

49'c idle?
thats pretty high imo..
im getting less than 33 on my 7800gtx, precured.
56-58 load is not bad.. im getting like 54 tho on my 7800gtx..
maybe u need better airflow or better case cooling?

the glue takes ~24 hours to fully set in, just so you know. so don't worry about them, they'll get stickier.

on another note, your temps do seem a tad high. make sure you tightened the thing down pretty well. not a TON, but it should be snug, and even on both sides. i also idle right about 33-34 with my GTX, and load temps never pass 59C

I did set the screws pretty dang tight with a small amount of Arctic Silver 5. Case temp ranges from 32-35 idle.. kinda warm i think but not a big deal

The card is running cooler than it was with the stock card and it's brand new (couple months). My friends 6800GT runs way hotter than my card did before this new zalman fan. I'm not worried about it since the default temp alarm goes off at 127c..
