New video card

I've been pondering whether or not to get an HD4850 and then I stumbled across the recertified EVGA 9800GX2 on newegg for about the same cost. Now I'll only be paying around $75 out of my pocket for whichever card I choose (if I do get one) since I'll be selling my brother my 8800GTX I have right now for what we budgeted for his build.

I read some minor hiccups about the GX2 here and there like the micro stuttering, but a lot of those issues seem to be resolved. Obviously from benchmarks and such the GX2 would be a much better deal at the same price, but I'm more interested in actual in game performance and I'll be playing stuff on my 57" 1080P so resolutions will always be 1920x1080.

Is there any reason for me NOT to get the GX2 over the HD4850? Also I'll be OC'ing whichever card and I was also looking at volt modding the HD4850 to get speeds closer to a 4870. So knowing that how overclockable is the GX2?

I don't want to hear save up for 'x' or 'x' this is more of a kind of on the whim upgrade since I have the opportunity to get new card without paying a whole lot. So unless you want to sell me a 260 or 4870 for around $200-220 please don't tell me to get them.

If you're using a 57" monitor, I'd go with a 1GB 4850. You're gonna need that VRam for that monitor.

GX2 is 'meh'. I've heard it OCs well but then again, why not just Xfire two 4850s? (hypothetically)

That involves me buying two cards. I'm only buying one since I'd be selling the 8800GTX and only spending a little out of pocket.

I'd just go with a 4850 because IF you eventually went Xfire, it would scale better than two GX2s. Spending $400 more dollars for SLi GX2s would also be ludicrous (you also don't have an SLi board). So I think you should look for a 1GB 4850.

No I don't have an SLi board. I have a P5Q-E (haven't updated the rig info with some of the newer stuff I have with my new OC's) now, but regardless not SLi and I have no interest in ever doing SLi with this rig. However I doubt I'd do Crossfire either since it'd only be 8x and if I were to do it I'd want full 16x. Again not really looking at getting two cards at all currently but I do know Crossfire is a possibility with my board but it's not one that I'm exploring right now.

Anyway, you say HD4850. Any brand you'd recommend over another? Thanks for your comments too.

And looking for other opinions as well.

Visiontek has the best warranty and service. They're all pretty good though. I would grab the cheapest.
PCI-E 2.0 x8 isn't really that bad of a bandwidth. Just throw that out there

Yeah, I've seen comparisons and such. It's just the mental thing knowing that you have two cards that could be running better. Anyway, the question is not about Crossfire anyhow as much as I'd love to go balls out for a graphics card (cards) again not going to happen right now. This is more of chance at a cheap alright upgrade. I might decide against it too. I just don't want to be tempted into getting two cards so lets keep it on track for one or the other.

Visiontek has a great warranty, I'm also aware that Sapphire isn't all too shabby either.

Whatever brand, I'd 100% go for 1GB. heelsparky0501 linked a pretty good one.
