Newb Alert....2500+/a7n8x-e want to overclock

Hello everyone...

i need some of your guru's help...

i'm working on a watercooling system right now and soon we'll want to overclock my CPU....

i'm running an AMD 2500+ (unlocked) on an Asus a7n8x-e motherboard....i have 512mb ddr400 ram (not sure of brand) and sapphire 9200 128mb video card

what i would like u guys to do if possible

is tell me what exactly does FSB or vcore or whatever those things mean and how do they affect my performance...

and timings...what does 1-1-3 mean? mines auto set to 3-3-8 i think but i have no idea what that means

a nice link to a good article or a nice write up would be greatly appreciated

if this was stickied somewhere, my apologies for missing it.

btw, i'm running the CPU at 200mhz at 1.75Vcore and the CPU is now shown as a 3200+ running at 2205 Mhz. the multiplier is at 11x and my temp is 44C cpu and 29C system

is this good?
how can i up this?

First, Here is a list of memory that works with Nforce boards

And Maybe this is a no-no link, but this has more info on memory timings and such then you'll ever need to know

Since yor already at 11x 200, normally the safest way to OC is to back the multi down, and raise the fsb until you find the max fsb your system will do, then raise your multi a little at a time until it becomes unstable, test with Prime95. Raising the multi puts a ton more stress on the cpu, and with your asus, will start the COP, and shut you right down. Besides, an increase in FSB is an increase in bandwidth. This is why an xp 2600+ 12.5 x 166 @2083 mhz will out-benchmark a xp2600+ 16x133 @ 2133, and do it at at lot cooler temps

Hello I have a 2500+ unlocked and I am running it at a 3200+ but my temps are running at 53c for the cpu and 32c for my case. What kinda cooling do you have in there right now? Oh also I have mine o/c with the default setting for the Vcore. If you lowered that and didn't have any problems it might lower your temps. Awsome temps man

Stock cooling system that AMD CPU's come with...

i do have a fan on the side of the case that blows air out of it....removing this panel adds about 7 degrees to my case temps...soo i guess that helps?
hopefully by end of tommorow i'll be sporting a homemade watercooling system....

higher temps? the lower the temps the better (duh

) untill you get better cooling i wouldnt go past 2.3 or 2.4 ghz at the max(probably wont get to 2.4 anyway)

Cool. I wish I had the money to build me a water cooled system right now. I do have a fan on the side as well and two on front and back on one on top but I still don't get as good cooling as you said you were getting but I guess it veries. Hope you get the water cooling system working.

well, as i read the temps that the mobo's give can very greatly, so ours temps might not be that far off....

anyways, forget the cooling part...

i got another problem

i raised the FSB frequency to 200 mhz...now...when i try to raise it higher than this, even by the next level 202 mhz when i restart the comp monitor turns off and thats it...i have to play with my jumper settings and restart CMOS...

i tried raising the voltage and doing it, same thing, i tried lowering the multiplier from 11.0 and raising the FSB to 202 it still locks up.

whats up with that?

also, i raise the multiplier to lets say 11.5 in BIOS, but when i run Nvidia's System utility, it still shows 11.0 multiplier and same 2200 Mhz speed...

whats up with that?

any info would be greatly appreciated!
