when you buy 2 of them, no rebate needed.
Raid and they will be cheaper and faster than the 150GB!!

this is the old raptor, not a velociraptor...
that is very bad price/GB ratio... The new raptors are ~80cents to the GB (CAD, probably like 65/GB in USD)

So? It's still 10,000 RPMs.

no at least not for 150GB is more than $1 if you talk /GB on new raptor.

If you raid it, it should be faster than the 150GB velociraptor...
and they won't be loud at all, unless you use them in silence machine?

A pair of good 7200rpm drives can be had for less, will perform as well as, or better than a pair of these, and will give you 5-10 times the space.

Only real pro is the raptor's reliability/warranty.

RPM, in and of itself, doesn't mean much at all.

Old raptors are slower than both hard drives I have in my rig and I don't have anything special. They stink now of days.

I highly doubt that...especially the 2 drives listed under your spec. especially when it comes to application that seek time is more important, the 2 you listed won't even come close.

Well ya access time will be better but overall my hard drives are superior. A raptor is not worth more than 50 dollars at all.
If I remember correctly test have shown that 1 300GB Velociraptor is faster than two 150GB Regular raptors in Raid 0. I could be wrong though.

Its all about random access time, at that even these old 74Gb raptors will be faster then your HDs.

Until you've used two raptors in RAID 0 you really shouldn't comment. You can look at all the benchmarks you want that say how 7200.11 drives are just
as fast or faster. I've owned raptors in RAID 0 and I've owned 7200.10 in RAID 0. The raptors feel quite a bit faster.

ok ok...let's not debate which HDD is faster which one is not. go back to the topic: Is it a good deal ?

i'd say, no.

I would say for Raptor yes.
if you want cheap storage, no....don't even look at raptor if you want cheap storage.
Do you need raptor ? no.
