Powercolor Radeon 5770, 512mb variant:

Is this the best 5770? nope.
Is this 1gb like most 5770s? nope.
Is this 5770 2/3 the price of the MSI 5770 I just bought? hell yes it is.

If your rocking a 1680x1050 or similar monitor, and not playing at enthusiast settings, this card should do what you need it to do, and at $30 less than the regular 5770's, $60 less than the overclocked variants. What a friggen steal.

Still thats a deal breaker for those who want to proof there rigs from tougher titles...i would hate to have to limit the settings in a game (textures not AA) for only 30$

The Vram really is worth it at that price if you ask me...unless your only running 1280x1024 or similar its way too easy to saturate 512MB's at 1680x1050

Which then begs the question: howbout a crossfire? 2x 5770 at the SAME price as a 5830?

2 5770 1GBs can't seriously outdo a 5830, either, but they do match a 5870.

erm, no. the 5830 has 1gig of memory, the same as 2 of these 5770s.
plus theres more shaders & ROPs in 2 5770s. a xfire of these would wreck a 5830. (possible driver issues notwithstanding).

EDIT: i'm a moron, forgot how memory is shared in Xfire.

ummm....2x 5770s cant outdo a 5830, but they can outdo its bigger brother the 5870? This hurts so much I cant think of a witty retort to add here. I'm gonna sleep on this defiling of logic, and see if something funny comes up.

I guess no one has ever explained crossfire/sli to you?

When you crossfire cards and this works the same for SLI...the memory doesn't accumulate from each card and instead with the lowest memory is the amount of memory your setup will have access to

Meaning if you run for example a 4870 1GB and a 4850 512MB you only have 512MB's of total vram between both cards together and the added memory of the 4870 goes unused

In the 5770's case you simply have 512MB's between in each

In the case of my rig i share 1GB of total vram between both my 4890 and 4870 due to them both being 1GB GPU's

Not trying to be all
but it looks like you may not have known any of this...my examples work the same for any of the 48xx/5xxx and just about any recent GPU from both ATI/Nvidia

Oh and yes two 5770's in crossfire even with only 512MB's of vram can overtake a 5830 and yes if you are not taxing all of the vram they would perform the same as two 5770 1GB's in crossfire (give or take an FPS) but after you start raising the resolution and the AA you are going to meet the limit of the vram where you can't go no further where as the 1GB 5830/1GB 5770's could keep raising the resolution or the AA OR both

Please let me know if i managed to become incoherent anywhere in this post...i was rambling on a bit there and trying to whack every nail on the head that came to mind

But back to the original point, for people not using 1900x1080/1200 +, one of these cards sure seems a steal. It's cheaper than most 5750's, and is the SAME PRICE as the 512mb 5750. for those looking in the $100-120 range, I dont think you could do better.
