[NH]AGP slowly dying (and stay down!)

To most people the AGP interface is a thing of the past. But there are still those who have motherboards and computers with the AGP format, and has no intention of upgrading the PC for some time. There are graphics card manufacturers who hasn't given up on AGP and one of them is PowerColor. It recently revealed that it is currently working on an AGP version of AMD's Radeon HD 4600 graphics card.

It hasn't specified which cards it will degrade and bring back in time, but apparently there is a big enough market to motivate the development cost. Prices and specifications should surface within a few weeks.

Let it die all ready...
LOL i have one of those slots in my foot rest (which happens to be my old pc)
there is already a agp 3850 so a agp 46x0 wont really be too much of a step up (the 4650 is slower than the 3850 and the 4670 is barely any faster) so this is not much of a step up.
Still breathing? Someone please choke it to death already....
hell yeah!!!

yea, probably breathing using a machine

just pull the plug
screw the 4600 series... i want to see a 4800 series that would be an upgrade..!
still got a couple of systems still running AGP 8x, if i need them upgraded that wouldnt be a bad move, but if the 3850 is faster than the upcoming 4600 then ill grab a 3850.

i dont think it needs to be choked, just not make anymore products for it and then it will die off.
if it priced right, i'll grab one to replace the old Radeon 9550...

The computer I'm using right now is on AGP 4x. It's from 2002 and still runs rather well. I can even play [email protected] I did upgrade from a 4400 to a 7600GS after about 5 years, so it's not completely original, but close enough. You guys need to learn to appreciate the "garbage" computers!

My best guess is that they want HD playback for the masses. The 3850 is pretty pricey for the average person but a re-manufactured 46xx might be more cost-effective to produce, thus cheaper for the consumer. Its not the worst idea I've ever heard of but than again I have the internet and cable.

I wouldn't call this breathing. It's more like coughing and wheezing after they shut off life support.
Actually this kind of reminds me of those PCI 8 series. Some weird company like Albatron or something...

Oh looks like they had issues with it:

Which is why AMD continues to produce Radeon class AGP cards -- there's got to be hundreds of thousands of AMD users who's boards are still AGP.

Time to put it to bed... then smother it to death.
