I have a Phenom x6 1090T running 3.85 ghz and im at a totall HEAT WALL. i am running a zalman 9900LED in my HAF 922 case. Is it worth dropping $90 Bones on a NH-D14? any idea on what kind of a heat drop i can get if i did? i tried to look up benchmarks between the two but i couldnt find a single one on google. any links to bench marks or comments will be appreciated.. thanks boys!

NH-D14 > Zalman 9900LED

Hell you can even check out the Thermalright Silver Arrow or the Thermalright Archon, but the only issue I see there is your Dominator RAM. I've got Dominator RAM under my NH-D14 easily. Just gotta take the heat fins off the first stick. The Archon should only give you issues if your case is too small or the video card is too close to the socket.

Thanks blackbalt89. i was searching to see if my ram would fit the NH-D14. when one of the heat sink fins above the fan in removed is that stick noticably more in danger of overheating?

Heat-spreads on Dominator 1600mhz sticks are a joke, a scandal, a marketing gimmick; pick your poison. You'll be fine removing the spreads from it.

The Noctua NH-D14 is one of the best performing air coolers for extreme overclockers. This holds especially true for CPU's with higher TDP's.

I would purchase a D-14 and wouldn't look back if I were you.

I personally have the Noctua d14.....and its amazing.....looking at the zalman cooler and im not impressed.

On the topic of physics, in principle it seems to me that there is a large inefficiency with the method of air distribution with the 9900. With the noctua, they have a much more concentrated and funneled air flow, not to mention good distribution of heat and radiators.

Glad to see another NH-D14 buyer. It is really really big for a Air cooler. But it will cool a high OC CPU
