So I hear a lot about how onboard sound cards eat up some CPU. Is this true with onboard nic? I am wondering because I have like 50 nic cards laying around but I just use my onboard nic because its there. What are your thoughts?

How much difference can it make? i dont think you will notice it at all. The sound card is a different story.

Yes, it's true that any feature of your motherboard that's enabled uses cpu resources. I don't know of any benchmarks or reviews that have put a figure to it, but if you have a nic sitting around, use it.
