I am wondering if I could share files and internet by placing two NIC cards in all the mother boards and then hooking each one to another with one machine wirelessly hooked to the internet. I have enough NIC cards to do the job. I'd just have to make up some cables. These machines are for folding and I have the motherboards screwed onto some shelving and this would realy cut back on the ammount of wires as there would be a bunch of 4 or 6 inch long cables conecting all of them instead of each one having a long cable going off to a router or hub. I was thinking if it worked, I could UV treat all cables in the set up and add a few LED fans and make for really cool looking closet *shrug* It would be like looking into a giant computer case. The PSUs are hiden behind the back of the shelving...it is looking sweet already. If this isn't possible, eventually they will all be wireless...but it will take some time to get a bunch of el-cheapo eBay wireless PCI cards.

Erm. The pains this gives my head wonders why you need long cables.. You can put the router right in there with the MBs (They aren't big??)?

You could probably do this with ICS and crossover cables. (Use 192 addresses, etc.)

Yes, use cross over cables to tie the machines together and set each one to bridge the connection. I'm doing something similar (just one other computer) for my folding rig which is acting as a booster seat for my main rig.

Best thing to do is get a multi port switch, or a hub. Then you can use regulat patch cables, or if u connect pc's directly to pc's with no hub/switch then u need crossover cables. I recommend a switch as they are just intelligent hubs and give your lan better better bandwidth.
That would be the best way.

Well...the long cable I want to get rid of is the one that would have to connect to my main router to another router for the folding machines. But if I can have one machine with a wireless card to start the chain, I wouldn't have to get another router/hub/switch if I did this. I am just trying to use as much of the junk I have laying arround before I go out and buy more junk.

I am a little worried about the bandwith issue...would this slow down my whole LAN? or would the bandwidth just get smaller and smaller in the NIC chain? I am not to worried about how fast their internet connection is as they only upload/download thier WU's once every couple days, I am worried about my main rigs and my conn for quake4 LOL
