Earlier today during Nintendo's E3 2011 Press Conference, the Nintendo Wii U was officially announced. I'll do my best to keep this thread updated with new information, but any help is greatly appreciated.

I like it. I like the console, I like the controller, the lineup of confirmed games, the graphics, and I like Nintendo. The controller is an attention grabber, and I think it's going to sell well. It is Nintendo after all, and they don't have too many flops. People love Nintendo, and they love the Wii brand name. The whole concept of it seems rather neat too, to be able to continue my game, even when someone else wants to use the TV is REALLY cool. There's just something about it that compels me to it, and I know that this is going to be a day 1 purchase for me.

The rumors about the wii u specs are wrong apparently, atleast about the cpu: http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/ibm-puts-watsons-brains-in-nintendo-wii-u/

It was rumored to be 32nm when this confirms the cpu as 45nm. I think its safe to say the other rumored specs are incorrect, especially since they wern't making a huge deal over the graphics.

Found this through Maxconsole.net. Just a simple image but could possibly be fake. Looks pretty powerful as compared to anything prior that Nintendo has done.

I saw that too. Looks interesting but according to the guy below, that's wrong. I wish it was right though...

I think that Nintendo is moving in the right direction here, HD games, interesting design, and appeal to a wide audience of all ages and many gamers. The controller might take some getting used to though. Lets hope that this isn't like the Sega Dreamcast though, that controller was weird imo and spelled the death of their consoles.

Same, it doesnt feel like a new console at all. Just what the Wii should have been all along. I hope 2012 is the year for the next xbox & playstation too.

I garuantee there won't be a new generation Xbox console. They're just getting started with the Kinect. I predict about another 2-3 years before they announce the next generation Xbox. I can't speak on behalf of the Playstation thought, they don't seem interested in the Move at all so they may be planning a new console.

Meh, I'm not really, it seems like the move they needed to make, at this point in time, consoles are outliving their standard lifetime by a substantial amount so this will be around for awhile.

Are you kidding? That was one of the most comfortable controllers ever! In my opinion of course. MUCH better than the Nintendo 64 and Dual Shock controllers to me. It was on par with the original Xbox controller.

I think that there will be a new xbox at least announced in 2012. They can easily make Kinect compatible with a new console and continue their trend of offering crappy kinect games. I think Nintendo dropped the ball on this new console and microsoft knows it and will jump at the chance to steal some of their thunder.

I can definetly see them announcing a new console, but I don't expect an actual launch until around 2014-2015. As for Kinect, I don't know about backwards compatibility. I would expect them to release a new Kinect model, they're going to try to suck as much money as they can out of people with the whole "no controller" thing.

But, I will respectfully disagree with your statement about Kinect games being crappy. Sure, they are a little pricey, but some Kinect games are actually pretty fun. I hate dancing, but Dance Central is fun when you're playing with friends. The same goes for Kinect Sports, simple, but still loads of fun with a group of friends.

Anyway, back on topic.

They said its got a "Custom IBM Power 6 Chip "FOX" on 32 nm process 4 cores, each 2 way SMT capable cloaked at 3.5ghz". So it's an 4 cores 8 threads... basically a "8 cores" processor?
