nLite:Allows you to modify your Windows 2000, Windows 2003 and Windows XP .ISO files. The modifications include:Unattended Install, Slipstreaming of Drivers and Hotfixes (Updates) as well as remove unnecessary features to shrink the size of XP and improve performance. This feature is VERY convenient for vLite. Windows XP is still a great operating system, and making a copy for benching/internet surfing would be perfect.
vLite is the same as nLite, but for Windows Vista. It has been reported to partially work w/ Windows 7.
So here we go:
Download your ISO. Make sure you have the CD key, you will need it later
Download nLite off www.nliteos.com
Download 7ZIP off http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. With it you will open your .ISO file as an Archive
Make a folder that you can copy all the archive files too
Copy all the files shown in the .ISO archive to this file
Run nLite, locate the folder that you saved the .ISO archive to, click next
next it should bring you to a window that asks what you want to put into this, select what you want to edit/slipstream into the .ISO. I'd suggest selecting everything, anything unneeded, just skip past it.
How to:
Hotfixes and SP's:RyanVM has Post SP2 and Post SP3 updates on there site, simply download these and put them somewhere you can remember them. When it prompts you to add Hotfixes, click insert and find the Hotfixes file. I believe RyanVM also has service packs for download.
Drivers:Backup all your drivers and put them all into a folder, I don't really have a program I can suggest. Once it asks if you want to insert drivers, hit instert and select multiple drivers then direct it to the folder w/ the drivers.
The rest will be strait forward and self explanatory.
