I don't always have troubles with my computer, but when I do, it's usually something bizarre and difficult.

So a couple weeks ago my 790FX-GD70's ethernet ports fried... Long story short, it was a power outage from a lightning storm. Anyway, everything else worked fine on my PC. I was using it without internet up until Monday when I decided to ship the board to MSI for an RMA.

I decided this would be a good time to upgrade, so I ordered a new motherboard/CPU/RAM which can all be seen in my sig rig. Everything arrived and I finished putting it all together today. I turn on my computer, DVI isn't working. I'm getting "no signal" from my monitor. So I turn it off and try HDMI. HDMI works fine and I'm able to get through Windows installation perfectly. Windows 7 installation gets to the point where it needs to restart. It restarts, then my monitor stops giving me display again. Now neither HDMI nor DVI work. I try another monitor in my house and it still won't work. I try re-seating my video card, clearing CMOS, all that jazz. I've tried everything that I've seen in threads.

Anybody have any ideas that can help me out? Thanks in advance.

UPDATE #1: Dr. Debug gives me an error reading "D6 - No Console Output Device Found" which leads me to believe it's the video card. At the same time, it would be strange since the HDMI was working and then stopped working after a simple restart.

UPDATE #2: My friend's 5850 works fine in my rig. My 5850 works fine in my friend's rig. It's something to do with my motherboard interacting with my video card in particular. Does anybody have any further ideas? Also, to top it all off, I flashed BIOS and it turned off my USB legacy support. I don't own any PS/2 keyboards.

Lastly, the BIOS flash didn't help and my video card still gives me a D6 error code in my PC.

UPDATE #3: Paid $11 for UPS label. Sending the board back today. Let's hope this solves everything.

UPDATE #4: Received my replacement board. Same exact issue. Said "screw it" and ordered a GTX 570. Still no computer.

Hi ChicknWafflZ, as simple as it might be just make sure you have disabled any onboard VGA you may have. Also, what graphics card did you have installed before this HD5850?

I have no onboard VGA, and I've had my 5850 for two years (my past two rigs). Before that, I had a GeForce 8600GT in my old Core 2 Duo rig.

i'm thinking it's something on your monitor..analog/digital setting..try messing around with your monitor options

My monitor works perfectly on every computer in my house (laptops) and my brother's monitor does the same thing on my rig.

Ive never seen something like this. Hopefully your GPU wasn't bumped or damaged in some way during installation

I've noticed a trend. Everybody that has this issue is using an ati 5xxx series card. No idea why though.

Well, my buddy is coming over in a little over an hour with his rig to help me troubleshoot. I'll test my 5850 in his rig and he'll test his 5850 in my rig. Hope I can find the problem.

Using Dr. Debug in the motherboard's guide, I've found that the motherboard's debug display gets stuck on D6 for "No console output device found". Would this mean something is wrong with the video card?

I just don't understand how DVI doesn't work, HDMI works, then in a matter of a simple restart HDMI stops working. Now nothing works at all.

Normally I wouldnt post in an old thread, however there is little information about the d6 error online so I wanted to add my experience.

I was getting d6 errors on an evga z68 sli motherboard when using the x8 pcie slots.
It occurred with both nvidia 8800 and amd 5850 graphics cards.
The x4 pcie slot was not affected and worked as normal. I had tried all the normal fixes, different psu, testing outside case, checking connectors, different outputs and monitors but to no avail.

In my case the problem was caused by some bent pins on the cpu socket. After getting them straightened, the problem has stopped and I can use the x8 slots again.
