i just built a computer for my parents

amd 2400be
2gb ram
radeon 1550
antec earthwatts 380
biostar ta770+

i dotn have it in a case yet, so its on its anti static bag ontop of the box.

everything powers up, just no video...

i already reset cmos, swapped out the ram, tried different video cards.

one thing i can think of is that when i was putting the cpu in there was more resistance than i was used too, and i dont have a 8 pin cpu power connector...

Install the latest drivers for the video card. Run a directx dialog to test them. I believe it needs that 8-pin power connector.

As do I... on some mobos... 4 of the pins supply power to the CPU... the other 4 provide power to the add-in slots, and are specifically required when the video card does not have its own power connector.

It's not too weak, especially since his graphics card isn't very power hungry. His CPU is an energy efficient model too.

He has PLENTY of power

Anyway, check if you bent any pins

yeah, i think it is due not having the 8 pin, i tested that mobo before it left here, it worked with a 650 watt bfg psu with 8 pin connecter and a nvidia 7800 gt.
ok, thanks for the help all

where can i find a 4 pin to 8 pin converter?

from any number of websites...
this is the type of plug you need:
although you may find it less expensive elsewhere.

http://pcpartscollection.stores.yaho...suto8atxm.html

but you would be better off getting a different power supply with the ATX 2.2 EPS 8 pin connector on the PSU

utilizing the molex adapter, all of your power for everything comes off the +12V2 Rail rather than the +12V1 rail which is dedicated to the CPU

EDIT: A quick glance at the manual for the Mobo, shows an independant 4 pin Molex on the borad to supply power to the graphics card. The connector is labeled:

JATXPWR3: Auxiliary Power for Graphics, and is a standard molex 4 pin connector... does plugging this in help?

the manual also shows the 8pin JATXPWR2: ATX Power Source Connector as only the CPU power. so theoretically, a single 4 pin connector should provide adequate power to your AMD 2400be CPU... it's only a 45W core
