No signal at boot

I've been using my Radeon x1600 for many years now and never have any serious problem until now. Yesterday, i browsing through the internet, when suddenly, my screen froze. I though my computer was lagging so I waited for it to finish loading, but then my monitor went dark and then went to sleep mode. I reboot my computer, but i still get no signal.

I tried to switching dvi ports, no luck. I switch to dvi to vga on my monitor and here it gets weird. When i switch to the vga port on my monitor, i see the boot up screen for my 2-3 seconds then my screen froze and i can still hear my computer booting up normally.This happen only twice.

Do you guy have any suggestion in fixing this or know the problem?

Can you boot into Windows Safe Mode?

Is it a possible overheating problem?
My suggestion is that the video card is not getting power enough. Take a look at power cables, especially the extra cable for the video cards.
Sounds like the vid card is not long for this world. Try cleaning the HSF. but if that and a good reseat don't work I would suspect either the ports are burned or the GPU is on it's way out.
Not for nothing, and I'm thinking worst case, but I experienced signs similar to you and it turned out my pci-e slot died. Hope that is not the case for you, but something to keep in mind.
@DuckieHo
I cannot see anything at all so getting to safe mode is difficult. Unless im doing it wrong, but when i tried to go safe mode, by holding f8 until you get the safe mode option, i still see. My graphic card can't being be overheating cuz i let it cool for 10hr, and still have the same problem.

@Biatch
how can that be, i've using the computer for almost forever and never experience this problem before

Check to make sure the power cable going into the VIDEO CARD is plugged in all the way. They could of come loose. try reseating the card. It's a small chance but you never know. I live close to O'Hare Airport and sometimes when a big plane is a little too low my desk (and whole house) shakes.

@Zoki318
there no power port for the graphic card
x1600 pro (card on right) was one of my old cards, looks like the following:

Check your seating. Remove card and put it back in.

Impossible as the X1600 is a PCI-E bus powered card, and does not use over 75w of power.

Like the previous people have said, reseat the card. If that does not work, try to find a 'test' card, so we can rule out that it is indeed the GPU that has died.
If you have integrated graphics on the motherboard, try using those. If you have friends that are into hardware, see if you can borrow their card for a night.

If you are still getting no signal to the monitor after that, trying using another monitor, or a TV (most cards come with a S-Video or composite out dongle), to see if it is the monitor that is broken.

If you've ruled that out, try removing all RAM except for the first slot.

If that still doesn't work, try reseating the CPU.

If that doesn't work, we have to assume your motherboard is hosed, and it's time to get a RMA board.

Contrary to popular belief, electronics DO die, and sometimes have to be replaced.

Best of luck in your future endeavours.

Another ECS board with PCI-E failures. Glad you got it up and going again.
