No sound after sleep on laptop

Hey guys,
I just installed windows 7 32-bit (clean install) on my laptop (gateway p172s-fx) with the specs below. Whenever I sleep my computer I do not get any sound when I open it back up. I have to restart my computer in order to get the sound to work again, which as you may understand, is very annoying. This seems to be a problem common to the P-series through some research I did thru google.
The "sound bars" are moving up and down in the Sound - Playback window but I get nothing from my speakers. I've tried disabling and re-enabling the sound hardware thru device manager, without luck.
Let me know if you guys have any ideas.
Thanks

Does this happen every time you start using your laptop after it was in sleep mode? Yes, I am sorry to say that from my research online, it does appear to be a common problem with that series.
Yep, that is exactly what happens. I've looked all over and on the Microsoft forums as well with no answer.
Any ideas??? Drivers are all up-to-date, uninstalled and reinstalled, etc. Still getting this problem.

can u fully access ur bios (its often somewhat restricted on notebooks)?
if so, change ur sleep mode to s3 only, that might work. (was a rather common issue in vista)
I'll see if I can. I'll do that now and get back to you.
