So I ended up breaking the right can last night by accidentally stepping on it. This broke the hot glue seal and pushed the cup all the way in, stripping, but thankfully not severing the wires at the opening. With the wires crossed it wouldn't work. The fix was pretty simple, but lacking electrical tape I had to make do with what I had at hand. And what does every good Canadian always have at hand? Duct tape. A strip of duct tape in between the wires solved the problem. But now I had to repair the break in the cable covering itself, as well as the part I cut out to better get at the wires. Lacking heatshrink tubing I went with a roll of black hockey tape I had lying around. The end result:

So now my Grados are held together with duct tape and hockey tape. Red Green would be proud.
