The Myo, built by Canadian start-up firm Thalmic Labs based in Kitchener, Ontario, aims to bring gestural interfaces into the mainstream. Electrodes embedded in the armband detect activity in a user's muscles as they contract or relax in the course of moving the hand and arm. The Myo transmits these signals wirelessly to software that interprets the movements into commands.

"Wave goodbye to camera-based gesture control." That is the confident directive coming from a one-year-old Waterloo, Ontario, startup called Thalmic Labs. The company is prepared to ship its next batch of wearable-computing armbands for device controls early next year.

So much this. x'D I'm so exited for the Rift and Virtual Reality as a whole and the Rift hasn't even released yet! Seeing tech like this just makes me feel like the VRevolution is so close...

Maybe the armband doesnt have to be strapped to your arm... maybe it could be strapped.. um.. elsewhere.

Easy guys. This isn't Reddit.
Lets keep it to talking about the article posted and not a circlejerk about a funny joke (and yes, it was pretty darn funny)

It's great to see technology like this coming at a time where mobile computing power is so prevalent and things like the Oculus and Google Glass. It's an exciting time to be alive, that's for sure.
