nVidia 6200-6800

Hey,

since I'm thinking about getting Mw2, I looked up the min. spec for it. It says that I need a Nvidea Gforce 6800. I have a 6200. Would this be a problem when playing? I know that it's going to be a bit slower, and the graphics cards is on top of my " need to get a new one" list.

I don't think even bottomed out a 6200 is going to be able to play it. I wouldn't even trust a 6800 to do all that well except at very low resolutions with all low settings.

Your CPU will probably be somewhat of a hang-up even tho it's probably w/in min spec.

CPU and GPU both need to be @ the top of your list.

Your mainboard is good, and while not great your PSU probably has room for upgrading. If you have at least a hundred or two($USD, dunno prices where you're at) you can get a decent upgrade now.
Not really sure, but seeing as your screen is 1024 x 768, you probably can get smooth gameplay if you turn settings to low.

Don't really know much about old cards. You should probably trust the above poster more.

Softmod that 6200 into a 6600 GT, that'll help a bit.

Not all 6200s are capable of that for 1, for 2 it'll never be a "GT" but some can unlock the other 4 pixel pipes, effectively making it a 6600 vanilla.

I think rivatuner still has the ability to do it... I'm unsure tho.

My bad, it's been forever since I've soft-modded a GeForce 6.

Even with the added pipelines, the game will still be far from "playable". You're better off getting a console version.

I normally cringe when that's mentioned, but I think MW2 as it is belongs on the console and not some half-arsed PC port. OP might not have a 360 or PS3 too.

K,
but my card can't be overclocked, starts artefacting even when i only up it 1 mhz.
The oldest card that we tried to run COD 6 is a 6600. It was playable on lowest settings 640x480 resolution.

I suggest you save up for a new GPU. A good cheap ATI x1650pro can run at high settings on 1024x768
And how about something like this: Asus radeon HD 4350Remember, I only want it to be able to run,ANd after this I'm going to save for a REAL card. (dont give me that crap that my mom always gives me " DONT DO IT! its w aste of money!" I know, its just a temporary solution
)

That's a really terrible card even for low-res gaming. It's a pupose made HTPC card, it accelerate Video, not 3D graphics, well at least not even close to well.

a 4650 or 9500GT is gonna be my suggestion. WOW... never thought I'd be recommending a 9500GT, lol. Neither is a great performer, but it'll let ya play the game. I saw 4650s on that sight for 50 and less, didn't see 9500GTs tho.

If you can try to get a GDDR3 9500GT, but whatever is cheapest will do ya. But I don't think a 4350 is gonna be suffcient even for low 1024x768 smoothly.

A 4550 MIGHT be sufficient if that's closer to your budget.

Then I suppose this is rubish aswell:

Club3D NVIDIA 8400GS Passive 512 MB

So I'd have to get this one:

Sapphire Radeon HD 4550 512 MB
or anything better.

Even more rubbish than what you had prior.

yeah, an ATI 4550 or better or nvidia 9500gt or better(those two are not equal, nvidia's next card dow, the 9400gt, is slower than the 4550)

Yea I had seen the 9400 in the same price class, but not the 9500. I might just get the Sapphire Radeon HD 4550 512 MB along with cod 6 this week.
I realize your processor is not the greatest, but ... if you want to game on the PC you should at least splurge for an HD4670 or a 9600GT. Anything below those cards (okay, before someone says anything, a 4650 or 9600GSO is arguable) is really not adequate for modern games. I mean they'll 'work', but you might as well be playing on a console in terms of the gfx quality if you get anything lower-end than those ...

I know it's temporary but if you get a decent card at least you'd probably be able to sell it when it's time to get the new one and get back the price difference, or use it for phys-x (if you go with nvidia). You get a 4550 or a 9500GT it's gonna end up worthless because nobody will buy it from you.
Ok, eehrmm... First up, I'm not going to sell my old cards anyways. My dad gets al my old cards for his normal PC, and it's a temporary solution, and I doubt I wouldn't be able to sell it in 3-4 months

100% agreed for most any situation except OP's.

Looks like he's looking to spend as little money as possible on a short-term solution so he can play a few games on his 1024x768 monitor, not even w/ high settings, just able to play it, period.

Also, a 96sp 9600GSO is about on par w/ a 4670 until the application of AA, then the 4670 pulls ahead by a few percent. Dunno about the 48sp 9600GSO, I'd assume it'd be closer to a 4650 as you noted.

its not playable at all i tried to play COD4 with a 7100GS it is a rebranded 6200, there both NV44. At 640x480 all low it got 5-10FPS max lol, so you shouldnt try this at all.

minimum to consider for GPU would be along the lines of a 7900GT/x1900Pro. Though the 9600GSO/8800GS the 96shaders not the 48 shaders would be the lowest id go, but you can play it on medium at 10x7 on a 7900GT or x1900pro
