nVidia driver crashes on Windows 7

Anyone else expriencing random driver crashes under 3D with W7? Running 7048 right now, and it occurs, even with the latest nVidia W7 International drivers....just a random thing it looks like.
Had this happen on an earlier build as well...

Have you tried downloading the latest Vista drivers and running them? They seem to work much better then the ones Windows installs.
The reason I'm asking is because I had a small water cooling mishap this week...a drop of water landed on the 8800 Ultra's PCB, causing a short and powering off the computer...
The card still works, as far as booting, and 2D and 3D, but I get random crashes while in 3D...
"Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

I'm HOPING like hell it's driver related, and not a ****ed vid card!

So if anyone else with nVidia hardware is having this error, please chime in!
Thanks

Same thing on build 7048(x64) and 7057, Vista drivers and the W7 drivers...
I'm running w7 with the latest drivers that windows installs. I've had no driver issues just a lack in performance. Though my cpu sucks (3200+), after switching to w7 from xp my fps seems to drop more.

I'm going to intall the vista drivers and see if I notice any change. Why do they make a w7 driver if installing it is a waste of time?
I think it's the same driver that's currently included with W7...
nVidia is just trying to get some rep for having W7 drivers available on their site for everyone...lol

I ran FurMark for 30 minutes without a problem...I think it's related to my screen saver, Dream Aquarium...
It's just poorly written I think...

well as far as my non professional opinion goes... again i would try the vista drivers as my 9800GTX has had no issues what so ever...if it still happens then... i would take out ur 8800 and in the spot where the water dripped on teh PCB, look for any tiny burn marks that could indicate a shorted out board... it could be something to do w/ how the card runs the driver, so if there is a short in a certain spot... you could be screwed....

Well, just played a marathon online round of GTR2, and not a hiccup...Phew!!!
So it's not my hardware!
And this is with the v1.1 WDDM drivers...
BTW, running 7057 X64 right now as well.....SOLID!
nVidia has some beta drivers out just for W7. 181.71

http://www.nvidia.com/object/windows_7.html
I think those are identical to the ones that come with W7 right now....

But I've figured out it's not the drivers, but the screen savers...I've tried a few 3D screen savers, and they all eventually crash...
Gaming however, is rock solid...
Windows 7 is just a heart of problems. Try different drivers (older version).
been using the Vista 182.08 WHQL's. no issues.

i think it might be your card

Yea, I just went with those drivers as the beta driver don't allow dualview desktop and SLi.

Also having issues with desktop themes crashing. I'm running the newer 7057 build.

Tried many W7 and Vista drivers...the problem is with W7 and screen savers, not the drivers.
Let us not forget that this is a beta release. There are going to be some problems with some people's stuff. I had problems with my lan card at first, but now everything's great. I installed the 185.26 forceware drivers(64-bit vista) for my 9600GT and i havent had any trouble at all. I am using 7057 as well.

Try a 3D screen saver and report back

Okay, well, seems like this issue wasn't going away...so I installed a copy of Vista X86 on another partition, and ran some GTR2...
CRASH!!!
Same nVidia driver crash as on 7...

So I double check my DD water block...it's secure and flat.
Reslot the 8800 Ultra make sure there is good fitment...fine.
Retest...no change.

On the off chance it had something to do with my overclock, which I'm not OC'ing the 8800, just the RAM and CPU, I dropped the CPU back down to 2.4Ghz and RAM to 1066Mhz...

Been running a 'playback' of GTR2 AND Furmark in windowed mode for 20 minutes now, and NO issues!!!

So, can anyone tell me what the issue might be?
Communication between vidcard and mainboard?
RAM and vidcard?

I'm wondering now if this began when I upgraded the 2 more DIMM's of the FlexXLC RAM (4X1Gb total)...
My Prime95 tests seemed to be fine with those overclocks....

Hmmm...

Alright, dropped the RAM down to 1066Mhz and 2.1v and left the CPU at 3.6Ghz and 3D performance is solid!
PHEW!!!!!

I guess I figured out another way to test my RAM stability!
"Display driver Nvidia Windows Kernal Mode Driver, Version 186.27 stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

Nothing fancy about my computer except it is brand new from Dell (Oct. 09). Screen blacks out, usually when switching between apps. Have reloaded Nvidia drivers, no change.

Dell is trying to help - much better tech support than a few years ago - but not fixed yet.
i got this when i was overclocking the card too hard

what card do you have?
