Nvidia to take ATI's middle-range crown

Not that they don't have it already (with the 6800GS), but are really going to hammer ATI with this one: 7900GT

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29931

Though the 7900GTX still is NOT expected to take the performance crown back.

it's a 7800GTX for christ's sake so it better beat Ati mid-range cards

also they are priced at $300 but I guarantee you wont see a 7900GT for $300 for some time, they'll be closer to $400 if anything else because right now G70 GTX's are priced at what $325 MSRP, and right now the cheapest one is $400
The 7900GT is a top performer, in no way mid-range. Plus, how can ATi have the mid-range crown when their mid range card (X1600) sucks?
PPl please stop reading the inquirer and wait till a week after launch and look at THE REAL BENCHES! Not a site saying it wont do it. Ill believe numbers and facts NOT speculation. The inquirer to me is the the inquirer on the newstands taking a lil smidge of truth and twisting it the way they want.

sigh... see there ya go again refering to what ppl say. You have no proof. A site saying something like that doesnt make it true. When the benches come out AFTER the product is released then ill believe these sites
Benchmarks are not entirely what make a card. Just becuase a card shows better numbers does not necesarily mean it is better. If whatever card you have performs great and does what you want it to is what counts. as money does not grow on trees it is hard for everyone to buy the top of the line as most people want. But for the card you purchase, low-end mid or high, whatever it may be you buy it becuase it has something you like. For example, for the most part I run Linux, and the lack of 3d support that ATI has in linux is part of why I run nvidia. I have used both brands, but the ATI's just do not cut it for me. WHat it comes down to is personal preference, do not buy a card just becuase someone else tells you to. Buy what you want. The whole idea of an opinion is to influence you, but you can chose what you want.
The only unknown of performance is the GTX, not the GT

I dont see how you can't read countless articles boasting the same info and regard it as false.

They said the x1900xt was going to be clocked at 625MHz/1450MHz and guess what?? It is clocked at 625Mhz/1450MHz...jeez what a shocker and it was about the same time frame to release as we are now to the 7900 release.

Actually, he maybe right.

If the specifications of the 7900 GT are given and are close/better to/than a 7800 GTX, then one can only guess that the performance will be similar/better in the game benchmarks (A.K.A. Time Demos).

The other problem still remains; SLI. Now it would seem logical that two 7900 GT for $600 which is close to the cost or even higher than a 7800 GTX 512 would be the best performance gain for the right price. Sure at release newegg and the rest will take an oportunity to high-jack the prices for a few weeks/months because of the hype.

Personally, I'm not a gamer nor bragger about benchmarks and will forever remain in the single card arena but it seriously would hurt ATI more. Although I'm not in favor of nVidia at all, I would really like to see ATI just pwned nVidia with a CrossFire set-up when Conroe comes around........Will ATI have better drivers?
See less See more
Well the specs look exactly like the 7800GTX's, and its an improved core design. So it will perform likely even better...
