The new Web language and its additional features present more tracking opportunities because the technology uses a process in which large amounts of data can be collected and stored on the user’s hard drive while online. Because of that process, advertisers and others could, experts say, see weeks or even months of personal data. That could include a user’s location, time zone, photographs, text from blogs, shopping cart contents, e-mails and a history of the Web pages visited.

And this is no different from a cookie identifying the user which is kept for months... if this information can be stored client-side, then it can be stored server-side and referenced with a cookie. After all, only specific sites relative to the one that created this special "cookie" can access this stored information - same as cookies. This is just sensationalizing, move on.

And all those features can be useful for legitimate reasons too.

It won't weaken it, I mean, exactly how many of the security holes in any OS come from Adobe products?

Isn't HTML5 still in development? People gotta stop trying to push it into the market.
