Oc'n ddr2 800mhz question

ok currently i have 8gigs of corsair ddr2 800mhz overclocked to 900mhz which turns out to 890mhz, im runing my cpu which is a e8400 3.0ghz at 1780fsb which turns to 4.0ghz or in the bios 4.05

i just switched from runing 4gigs, 2x 2gig chips of sli memory 800mhz that was clocked to the same speeds but i was geting random blue screens,

currently my bios is seting my 8gigs of ram to 2.1volts and on the ram it says made for 1.8 - not sure if this will damage it or ruin the life but ram is cheap right now so im really just testing overclocking out and worrying about the expense of buying new ram if it ****s up,

what i would like to know is if i should run linked , auto and synced or unlinked and then just run the 1780 fsb and 900mhz memory clock, i heard any higher then this will probably not work but im willing to test higher

check my cpu specs for more info, basically im just wondering if runing memory and cpu synced or linked is faster then unlinked just so i can achieve my 4.0ghz which is really what i like to run but if i have to lower my 4.0ghz to link my ram which would in the end make speed faster then hell why not, but in my eyes the higher the number the faster, seems to always work that way or usually .... sorry for the long ass wall of text but im really interested in overclocking and not gunna give up easily, thanks for the help for anyone who decides to read all this bull****

lol, 780i ram problems SUCK, dont use more then 2 sticks in the 780i unless u want to run them at less then 800mhz. also unlink ram from fsb to oc cpu, then test ram speed, because you will not know if the ram of cpu is unstable.
Overclocking 4 sticks of ram is hard for most boards. Oftenly it requires raising the NB and MCH voltage.
well i got the 8gigs oc'd to 900mhz right now(890) and i ran memory test and no problems , gunna game for a hour or two and see what happens
im thinkin of buying pc8500 and trying to overclock it to like 1200mhz because the 780 board says it will support 1200mhz sli memory but i havent seen any higher then 1066, are you supposed to buy 1066 sli memory and oc it to 1200 for those speeds?

and will it make much of a difference vs's just 8gigs of 800mhz oc'd to 900?

From what I've been hearing, 4x2GB @ 1200mhz is impossible on a 780i. Even if you buy the G-Skill PI 9600's, which are rated for 1200mhz. They simply won't make it to 1200mhz because you would be using 4 sticks of ram. Two sticks won't be a problem to run at 1200mhz though, but the G-Skill PC9600 is quite an expensive set.

yeah memtest takes a while lol I run it for like 30 minutes and call it good when i am testing overclocks. Then if i ever get a blue screen i run it overnight. I think on my current ram I never ran it overnight... but i haven't gotten a BSOD yet so no need.
yea i run that **** for like 30 minutes if im at the cpu and for a full duration if im gunna go do things but i dont like takin a chance of geting a blue screen and my pc just siting at a bsod possibly burning up, not sure if it is possible for your pc to burn up during a bsod but **** i dont know a 100% answer so i never take the chance
i keep forgeting i cant type curse words lol , just fill in the blanks
so all in all anyone think i will see a performance increase if i change from pc6400 to pc8500, both are ddr2
oops messed up, read top
