I'm sorry, It's a first generation SSD so it has a JMicron controller and suffers with stuttering.

Try and sell it again on eBay if you don't like the performance of it.
Or use it off a hardware raid controller card which'll help a lot thanks to the onboard ram
Alright, thanks guys. I'll see about speaking to the seller

Looks like he already did and I hope he's not the non-paying bidder type of guy.

???
all ssd's with jmicron controllers suck...they have a problem with stuttering.

samsung, indilinx, and the intel controller SSD's are the way to go.
Yea, I know. That's why I'm trying to communicate with the seller to try to cancel the deal with little to no repercussions. I didn't have much time to research it before I saw that the auction was almost over. I messaged the seller right after about it, after gathering more information, and informed him that he could offer it to the next highest bidder. It took him a whole day to check his inbox and respond, and in the description, it said to message him with any questions. If I did have time before to ask him, it would've probably taken the same amount of time for a response, which would've been after the auction ended. I think that's a legitimate excuse not to accuse me of any wrongdoing on my part. I simply was looking at the price:memory, and only had time to get the read/write times, which were not posted.

He has yet to respond to my reply earlier today.
Sorry, there are no excuses for bidding on an item and then trying not to pay. You made an error in judgement, in the heat of the moment. You're not the first, or the last. Accept responsibility for your actions.

I am taking responsibility by contacting the seller and making the circumstances clear.

What if you bid on an item that you did not know was local pick-up only, as perhaps it says Paypal/Local pick-up, but then there is no explanation in the description. If you win, are you obligated to pay for it, even if you won't be getting the product?

I am not neglecting my responsibility by directly contacting the seller. THAT is the difference between merely ignoring the situation and not paying or making any attempt to resolve the problem. The seller has full right to cancel a transaction, and can do so, especially if requested by the buyer. There is no reason for a seller to force a buyer to pay for an item they do not want. If a buyer desires information, a seller should be readily accessible.

I think you're skewing the extremity of what is ethical with what is practical and reasonable.

Have I no support at all, or am I just deemed unreliable now? :\\

D00d, you don't have to come down so hard on the OP. If the seller is willing to sell to the next highest bidder, then whatever. If the original seller isn't willing, it's not like the OP is asking for advice on how to avoid paying for the item.

Jeez. Life's full of second chances.

Thanks. If he is unwilling to do so, then I will pay. But otherwise, there is no benefit for either seller or buyer to force a transaction.

Update on the situation: So apparently the seller finally responded to me after...4-5 days... and had relisted the drive as a "Buy it Now" item for $199.99+shipping. It has been sold, and I find that quaint, since I wasn't even informed of anything. I guess I no longer hold responsibility for it, but that is definitely strange and rather rude.
A software cache driver can remove the stuttering on SSDs with early controllers, and generally speed up random write a great deal.

Still, I wouldn't spend 200 dollars on any first gen SSD.

Definately weird but it worked out perfect for you!
