OCZ Pro-x-stream 1000w no 8 pin connectors!

1243 Views 16 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  king_play334
So i have a OCZ 1000W pro x stream. It has only 4 six-pin connectors. I was thinking about just putting the 6 pin where the 8 pin is suppose to be. Is this even going to work, should i be worried about breaking/frying anything?
by the way, this is for my SIG RIG.

Did it come with Molex to 8 pin adapters?

yea, my video cards did. that's what im using right now. I honestly hate them thats why i made this thread. lol.

As a last resort i'll take the money i saved for liquid cooling and get a new PSU or sell this one, and another 600w i have for a new one, or just buy adapters, i don't know what to do yet.

It has a 8-pin EPS plug. Look again.

Sorry about that, I should've made that clearer in the original post.

8-pin PCIe and 8-pin EPS have different pinouts.

8-pin EPS has different keying than PCIe plugs.

yes, i understand that, but i just want to know if it would be a good idea to plug in a 6 pin PCI-E where an 8 pin PCI-E is suppose to go on the Video Cards (GTX 280's)
You could always just buy some 6pin>8pin adapters.

You may need to jump the extra pins.

Jump the pins does the same thing.... or you can splice on a new plug.

If i replace the plug (from 6 to 8) what steps would i take to make this 6 pin PCI-E connector a 8 Pin PCI-E connector.
Sorry if im being a bit buggy, im tired, sleepy, not great with power supplies, and just need this out of the way. lol
thanks!

Take a look in your Gtx 280 box. they usually come with adaptors for it.

Im currently using the adapters, i'd like to get rid of them, thats what the deal is right now.

So you really dont have a problem at all... the solution just isnt as pretty as you hoped?

Rather than live with the adapters your going to buy a whole new PSU?

It's really not that big a deal, I believe the extra two pins are just grounding pins anyway.

lol, yes im that picky!, the smallest things bother me for some reason. The cable management is awsome though. I also need some more molex connectors freed up for a Liquid cooling system, fan controller, and a few other things. the adapters hog all my molex connectors. D:
