As the title states a friend purchased a 240 gig one and is selling for real cheap new unopened but his had it for about 2 months. Are there still alot of problems associated with the vertex 2 or has anyone here got one and made great use of it without any problems for a while any feedback tips appreciated..

well apparently for alot of people they have been randomly breaking down and not working and for others apparently the speeds of their drives have dropped to alot less then the 285/270 read/write speeds advertised i dont know i guess its different for everyone but alot of people have had problems and i am pretty sure this was a well known fact.

I guess that would depend which program is used to benchmark, I sold my Vertex2's and got a C300 Im not that happy with it in comparison.

The pic with the faster writes was on first installing with all my usual programs about 7 weeks ago. Then look how its slowed , and the ASSD scores

Ive only just dug out the first scores and they prove this drive is slowing up fast, its getting sluggish is what ive noticed and now the tests show it.

I'm suprised.

You're the first that I've read that has perferred a Vertex2 to a Crucial drive.
Maybe its a dodgy drive I have I may contact Crucial seems a big degradation in a few weeks. 1t does everything slower than the vertex2, boot time, virus scanning, opening programs, and it hangs for several seconds every time I install a program before it actually acts, even my old hitachi sata dosent do that.

PS and Im talking about the virus scan before any degradation, Vertex took 22 seconds for a quick Avast scan C300 45.

Your for start not going to get a perfect 285/270 read and write, since your motherboard, OS and programs will affect that. The only degrading of speed ive seen is from Hdd benchmarking or some one who doesnt read the care instructions and defrags the drive. One of my mates has 2 of them and they run 24/7, he has not had a single issue yet. Also overclocking the pci could degrade the speeds too since it can corrupt a hdd
