Odd problem relating to Newegg

534 Views 13 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  zomgiwin
Ok so i have 3 home computers. 2 of which work flawlessly, sadly my main rig that's sigged for WHATEVER reason can't go to newegg. it's like it doesn't exist at all. i can't get to it through IE, firefox or even use ping or tracert

Any insight on this? i don't mind the extra security karma is giving my bank account, but i really would like to browse through things on my main rig ya know?

Any help WILL be appreciated! thanks!

Have you tried running a virus scan? Or re-booting?

You don't think another family member(wife, girlfriend, mother, father...don't know how old you are so...) maybe blocked the site so you can't spend any money at the Egg as a bad joke?

Strange. Sounds like it was blocked. (or a virus)
If it was blocked you'd still be able to ping it though right? I mean..it was a trick back in high school for me to ping a website, then just put in the IP address it gave to get there. Although they were blocked on a different basis..
well i've rebooted, no avail. don't know where i'd get a virus, last time i ran AVG a week ago was kosher.
Computer is only used by myself, so nope not a bad joke, i'd notice if my roomates tried this on me

Going to re-run a virus scan though. don't know why it would only be newegg that can't show on this rig. awful peculiar. especially when the others can get it. i'm left scratching my head.
And i also just use the windows firewall.

**nope can't even ping newegg*

Can you ping external IP addresses? Try pinging 4.2.2.2

The way you stated it, I assume you can't ping hostnames (ie. www.newegg.com)

If you can ping a public IP but no hostname, it's a DNS issue.

You could open a command prompt and do: ipconfig /flushdns

I'm leaving work now so I'll be back on in a bit.

Can you go to any website? Is it just newegg?

Check your hosts file in c:\\windows\\system32\\drivers\\etc to see if any entries for newegg.com are in there.

Yep goofed up my DNS settings, thanks Bonz!
It was only newegg i couldn't get at.

Yeah my settings are on auto, i like to fiddle with configuration files from time to time when i'm sloppy drunk, eh... lessons learned! :-D

actually i'm having issues again starting last night. i do not understand why this is happening and only to the egg. Whatever though, i'm going to try and find a cheap copy of vista, i'm sick of XP anyway. I'm sure there is a configuration file somewhere i fudged up but can't remember where the heck it may be. either in the registry or wherenot...
And my backup rig lost it's 8800gt, so i can only get to the egg at work now heh.
i am having horrible luck lately with components failing on me!
hosts file
should be in
windows/system32/drivers/etc/
i think
check for any newegg stuff in there
