The RX 6800, RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT share the same PCB design. The AMD Reference PCB (2x8-pin) has room for 6 power stages on the left and 10 power stages on the right, with ? of them allocated for memory. This means that the RX 6900 XT reference PCB has a maximum of ?? power stages for the GPU.
Can't wait to sell my 3080 to get this. Will actually profit slightly in all likelihood.
I'd also like to dispel the rumours that:
A. 6900XT will be AMD only
B. 6900XT will be limited production
Not only are these rumours clearly false, but whoever came up with them were dropped on their heads early in life. If either of these were true it would be a MAJOR ****up on AMD's part.
To myself and many enthusiasts this is the only appealing card in AMD's lineup because of the potential for crushing raster performance. 10% higher than 6800xt combined with the fact the 6900xt will be a higher bin thus higher overclocking potential makes this card a real contender. So no, it won't be limited production.
Furthermore, why would you limit the potential of these cards to what ever AMD comes up with instead of unleashing them with high power limits on AIB boards with many more power stages. This is their top end card... their door into the enthusiast community. There is no way they don't get AIB boards.
These are the kind of rumours which get perpetuated by the smaller youtubers for clickbait titles. You know who you are... and it's not okay to spread misinformation. I'd be okay with it if the rumours were just being discussed with emphasis on scepticism. But these people treat it like fact. Even big channel like Linus does this.
Do the right thing and don't give them your views. Always treat rumours are false until they are proven, because they are most likely made up.
I'm torn between the 6800xt and 6900xt. I hate spending a $1k on a GPU, but I've never really bought cards at that level before. I got my 1080ti for $550 during the mining boom from Amazon Marketplace. Used, but still under warranty, with an Amazon receipt to boot.

I'm ultrawide 3440x1440, but with the cavaet that I'm a flight simmer w/ 4k VR. So I need a beast. DCS @4k on a HMD will bring almost any system to its knees.

Well I'm curious to see what the actual difference is. They are comparing them to two cards that aren't very far apart. I don't like the idea of paying 50% more if it's going to be 10% better.

Everything pending 3rd party benchmarks of course, but If the 6800 XT is actually available on the 18th, I'm going with that first. Then may grab the 6900 XT when it comes out.
Only problem is these cards the 6900 and the 6800 will probably sell out in seconds and not be available for the masses until next year just like Nvidia's 30 series. And if you do find one it will be on Ebay for twice the MSRP.
There are a lot of people waiting to see if that comes true. We don't actually know what the root cause is for the supply issues nvidia is having, but I think a lot of people are hoping it is Samsung that is the problem.
Well I work in the chipmaker area here in the US, and I can tell you that supply right now for lots of materials to make certain things is extremely low and extremely back up due to this whole pandemic thing. I would bet that YSMC is going to have the same supply issues that Samsung is having. I know where I work things that we build in a normal time would be say 2 weeks. But now because of supply issues we are quoting our customers at least a 6-8 week delay. And this delay is showing no signs of slowing down at least until next year....
I think that is true for a lot of places. If it's all the other bits (besides the gpu itself) that are creating the problem then AMD will very likely have the same issues. If the problem for Nvidia is that Samsung isn't getting enough chips out the door then there is hope that AMD won't have the same issue with TSMC.
Can't wait to see eBay flooded with used nVidia 3000s, and scalpers unable to make any profits! I just hope those gaming performance figures are close to reality. Never had an AMD/ATI GPU but I'm ready to teach nVidia a lesson if AMD's offering is adequate.

6900 XT should be almost exactly 10% faster than 6800 XT, the specs are near identical except for the amount of shader processors (and ray accelerators), 5120 (80 CUs) and 4608 (72 CUs). The reason it costs so much more ($350 / 54%) is because it's difficult to manufacture those last 8 CUs, read more about yields here, this image also shows the full 80 CUs, 40 each side, in other words the 6900 XT is the full-fat Radeon, similar to RTX 3090 which uses 82 of 84 SMs so almost full. The 6900 XT clearly has an awful price/performance compared to the 6800 XT (amazing value against RTX 3090), but that's what you gotta pay to get those last 10%, so far I haven't seen any other advantage, maybe we get some unique partner models exclusively on 6900 XT, only time will tell, but it's very clear 6800 XT will be the popular model. Personally only interested in the 6900 XT and RTX 3090 since I'm already on an overclocked 2080 Ti with unlocked power limit and water cooling, which performs the same as a 6800 XT or RTX 3080.
That is what I heard for the 6900, that it will only be made by AMD itself no 3rd party vendors will have it, at least in the beginning I would assume.
