Hello. Is XOC bios from first post still best for watercooled 1080 ti fe or are there better options?
Apparently yes.. as long as you have a new card and only intend to use it for 12-14 months.

Why is that? Could there be any problems due to this bios? What then to flash for long-term use?
My 1080 Ti suffered degradation after running XOC bios daily @ 1.200v core voltage for 17 months. I didn't fry it totally. But I did do some damage to it. Even if I removed the software overclock (completely just stopped loading MSI Afterburner at all on start up so it never applied any kind of overclock) the card still would just completely crash to desktop instantly in any game I tried under any load and wouldn't do anything, when running on the XOC Bios. I had to flash back to the stock bios and reduce the overclock to get it to still run now.

XOC is fine, as long as you limit the voltage to 1.093V and just use the "no power limit" feeling.

Like kithylin said, 1.2V is not healthy on the long turn

With XOC I was able to run it at 2126 Mhz @ 1.200v (and yes my card needed that voltage to do it... it wouldn't run 2100+ Mhz at all without it) and +700 memory. Now on stock bios it runs 2012 - 2025 Mhz and I can still keep the +700 memory. So not terrible. So far it's been okay for a few months like this.

Well thats pretty good actually. Well within the average for most 1080Ti's. Max I can do on my MSI is 2063Mhz at 1.093v.

What I have found personally is that with these cards we actually do not need the XOC bios to avoid throttling. I'm actually able to maintain 2012~2025 Mhz on this card and never drop below it on stock bios just because I'm able to keep the card < 45c at all times (even when the ambient room temps in the computer room where the physical tower is sometimes gets up to 32c ambient temps) due to a large custom water loop with 4 radiators and 15 fans. If we can just keep the cards cool enough they don't throttle at all. It's the temperatures that throttle 1080 Ti's badly. I vividly remember when I first bought this card on it's stock air cooler (EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black Edition) I was trying to run it at max overclock and it would start out around 1950 Mhz core speed and then when I would play a while it would heat up terribly up to the mid-70's C core speed (even with the fans forced at 100% constantly) and eventually throttle it's self down to the low 1800~1820 Mhz range after eventually heating up around 80c. And now today with this big loop and I can keep it < 45c it stays at 2012-2025 mhz all the time and never goes below that. Well in benchmarks.. in actual games I play with Vsync on for 80 FPS / 80hz currently, so it often switches down around 1200-1300 mhz depending on how hard the game I'm playing loads it. But if I play a game like ARK: Survival Evolved, it can run at 2088 all day for hours now @ 40-43c with no throttling.

I don't think XOC is actually that beneficial. We can't even use XOC on an air cooled card anyway (safely) and if you're custom water already then it seems the cards shouldn't throttle themselves if your loop is big enough to keep them cool enough, even without using XOC.

EDIT: Fixed some Mhz typos.. I must of been drunk when I first wrote this post. I have no idea where I got 2088 from with the previous page and this post. My card maxes out at 2025 Mhz now on stock bios.

Hello everyone,

I know it is a 1080TI Owner's club, but it popped up in google search when I searched for Total GPU power (normalized) (% of TDP) :)
I have an Asus strix 1080 (no OC, everything is on the factory settings, never tried OCing it) and my normalized TDP jumps up when I am in game to 200-400%. Is that normal?

most air coolers use 1s, or larger, while blocks use 1s n smaller. LOL, some of these nasty blowers use 3mm pads.

Just reinstalled windows.

What was the softmod needed for 1.093v?

I tried the curve settings in the first post, but seems I top off at 1.062v now.

Dont remember what was needed to get it to ignore whatever limits it could ignore...

if using msi afterburner, move voltage slider all the way to the right, then in curve you can set ur voltage/freq curve till 1.093mV instead of 1.062mV thats by default with voltage slider being all to the left.


btw, just installed shadow of the tomb raider, was waiting for em to release last patch and all tombs before i dive into it. must say, multi gpu support ( yes multi gpu not sli or crossfire ) is like i have nothing i seen before, scaling +90%

and then u get this gipsy's that roll out AAA titles every year and cant bother with it, but this little studio pulled it off. hats off to them. directX 12 doing its magic when properly implemented. this should be future of multi gpu systems, not freakin 80$ nvlink.

Howdy ladies and gents. Anyone know a quick link to reinstalling the Founder Edition coolers? Also, anyone remember the factory pad thicknesses? Thank you kindly!


EDIT: Using a vid in reverse for install, but still want to know the original pad thicknesses if anyone may know.


EDIT 02: for the small weird white thermal "pads" that came on the card in some areas, would a .5 pad be ok for those? I'm prepping these cards for sale to a friend.

My card used to behave like your 2026-2012mhz most of the time 2026 and rarely dropped to 2012, when I say used to it's because something weird that i can't explain happened last week when i did a fresh windows installation, since then the card won't do 2026-2012mhz but instead 2038mhz and it wont go below that, i played hours and hours many different Games and ran like 3 or 4 different Benchmarks and the card stay all the time at 2038mhz, something I find funny is that your cooling system with 4 radiators and 15 fans has way more cooling capacity than my cooling system which has just a single 360 Rad and my GPUs temperature is 47-50c.
