Question (RTX 2070 Only): What does Non-A mean?
Answer: There are two GPU variants: TU106-400-A1 (1F02) and TU106-400A-A1 (1F07). Factory overclocking is prohibited on the former, it has a boost of 1620 MHz and a power limit of 200W. The latter chip has varying factory overclocks and power limits up to 300 W, flashing a 400A based BIOS onto a 400 GPU and vice versa is not possible. Manual overclocking is possible on both.

Question (RTX 2070 Only): How do I know if I have a 400 or 400A card?
Answer: Check the list above, but it may be incorrect as the early batches of the ASUS Turbo card had the A chip, recent reports indicate later batches are the correct 400 chip since the card was always advertised as not having a factory overclock. To be certain, check the Device ID in the main window of GPU-Z, if it shows 1F02 it is the 400 chip, if it shows 1F07 it is the binned 400A chip.

Question: How do I know what power limit my card has?
Answer: In GPU-Z, click the Advanced tab, then General and finally choose NVIDIA BIOS, under the Power Limit section you will see Default and Maximum.

The 70 series has always been the best performance per dollar in my opinion. This is probably what I will end up with.

Well the 1070 was faster than the 980 Ti....so I'd expect the 2070 to be faster than a 1080 Ti and cheaper than a 1080 Ti. 1080 Ti has 11GB frame buffer, but that is gddr5, while the 2070 has 8GB but is gddr6. But I think this is where the real question lies. Many are wondering how much faster the 2080 Ti is going to be over the 1080 Ti....I'm wondering how much faster the 2070 will be over the 1080 Ti.

Looking at upgrading to a 2070 also. So far the MSI Armor has caught my eye. i usually get ASUS but the MSI by the numbers seems better (and the new GPU needs to fit in my mAtx case).

Wow this thread is dead.

I'm thinking of buying a 2070 but all of the good cards seem to be $600+ and I'm looking to get something under $600.

My guess is I will get a bad quality card because I'm impatient.

Well I think many people are waiting for more info/actual game play input before pulling the trigger on the 2070. I have seen the prices go up by a bout $30-$50 from $499.99. Of course there are some that are much higher starting price. I admit still $500 is a steep price (that is more than most Mobo/CPU combinations) but looking at the 2080/ti is absurd.

I think the 2070 without having the Nvlink is a bummer BUT on the other hand I think we all have been burned by the SLI bit in the past. Now the DLSS looks to be very promising so at least that a plus. All in all I think it will be a gamble for if most/all games (more than the small list for games supporting turing that has been listed) incorporate the tech/software then we all win..if not this will seriously put a black mark on Nvidia and it will hurt the company down the road.

A little patience is all we need.

Things I can tell about my MSI 2070 Armor (530€ Portuguese store):
-It is very powered limited
-It has the non-A chip and it can not be flashed with other A chip bios, yet I hope.
-I tried an sort of did, shunt mod it and the OC wasn't great also... but more stable while benching.
-Flashed it with a non-A chip bios from EVGA and it messed up one DisplayPort (EVGA has a DVI) and also messed up the powerlimit... (will test again maybe.)

I am waiting for a possibility to flash with a A chip bios.

I'm thinking that the reviewers got shafted with these low end $400 cards, especially with a lot of them coming with only an 8-pin.

Seeing this review which came out much later:

It shows that there's a 5% difference between the $499 tier cards and the $550 tier cards, yet still no information about the big guns (the ones that sell for $600 right now).

Right now I think I'm getting the XC Ultra Gaming, everything seems good about it and those TimeSpy scores put it in 1080Ti range where I'd expect a 2070 to perform (although for a good $100 less but that's just the market for you right now).

Also there are a few promising scores on hwbot for the 2070, specifically this one which puts it cleanly into 1080Ti range:

Gaming seems to perform slightly weeker, closer to the 1080 than the 1080Ti right now but there still seems to be a wide field of results.

Can you show this Shunt mod? My card comes in tomorrow but so does the rest of the stuff for a new build and the card will get clocked last.
But I do love to benchmark so I might do the mod or find an alternative.

I've found on TPU a RTX 2070 TU106-400-A1 (Normal Chip) BIOS from Gigabyte with a strange Power Limit maxed to 240W while all the others BIOS are 200W.
Flashing does work at least on my MSI RTX 2070 Armor. Monitoring is showing power draws from 215W to 240W when overclocking with higher volts.
This allowed my card to go from 2010mhz max boost before flashing to 2070mhz after flashing.

Are you familiarized with the liquid metal shut mods? And what it does? The "sinhor clamp" mod I did is the same but with a clamp that does the same without soldering, but I dont recommend it because it dangerous, if the clamp slips it will short something, because it is near the power input wires.
I am not using it, just waiting for a bios mod...

I decided to sold my Gigabyte Windforce after 2 week use. It was otherwise great card, but I couldn't live with locked max 200W power limit. I was already looking shunt resistors, but then found buyer for the card with pretty much same sum as I paid for it.

Now I'm looking for A binned card. Can't decide if get another 2070 or should I jump to 2080. This time I have to be 100% sure, that I get A bin (=possibility flash better bioses), but how can I be sure which card has A bin? Is the "OC" in name always A binned? But then example Gainward isn't using "OC" naming. I'm looking for cheapest cards (2070 or 2080) with A bin chip.

Anyone here know anything about the Galax 2070 OC?

It's the cheapest 2070 I can find in Australia ($30 cheaper than the next lowest 2070 and $150 cheaper than the next OC'd 2070 available).

Also comes with a boosted clock of 1815Mhz which is crazy high as the lower ended 2070 OC cards only get boosted to ~17xx.

2070's that get clocked up to ~18xx are all like $300 more than this card which is why I'm hesitant.

Seems too good to be true but I literally can't find any information online about this card, only a dodgy YouTube review that's not even in English.

I am hearing about power restrictions. What is that looking like in real world clocks? In a review I watched the lowest end 2070 hot over 2ghz just like the other cards.

Is this similar to the 670/680 launch where beefed up cards were hitting similar clocks to basic cards?

Edit### Looks like I was mistaken the GN reviews says the card is power limited (EVGA Black)

I am not using it, just waiting for a bios mod...
I will just solder the shunt, no worries there. Just not sure when I can find the time.
