Question: What does Non-A mean?
Answer: There are two GPU variants: TU104-400-A1 (1E82) and TU104-400A-A1 (1E87). Factory overclocking is prohibited on the former, it has a boost of 1710 MHz and a power limit of 240W. The latter chip has varying factory overclocks and power limits up to 338 W, flashing a 400A based BIOS onto a 400 GPU and vice versa is not possible. Manual overclocking is possible on both.

Question: How do I know if I have a 400 or 400A card?
Answer: Check the list above, but it may be incorrect as the early batches of the ASUS Turbo card had the A chip, recent reports indicate later batches are the correct 400 chip since the card was always advertised as not having a factory overclock. To be certain, check the Device ID in the main window of GPU-Z, if it shows 1E82 it is the 400 chip, if it shows 1E87 it is the binned 400A chip.

Question: How do I know what power limit my card has?
Answer: In GPU-Z, click the Advanced tab, then General and finally choose NVIDIA BIOS, under the Power Limit section you will see Default and Maximum.

MSI makes great cards, never had any issue with them and I'm a big fan of their coolers. Just pre-ordered the gaming trio myself.

Wanted the strix also but I was too slow. Finally I can upgrade my 980Ti.

The software is what i am most worried about and i have a strong dislike towards EVGA for that reason and their RTX series cards are ugly as sin as well
Asus are by far the most expensive of them all so thats out as i am not paying that much more just to get Asus

My last experience with Gigabyte was weeks of random crashes before i got fed up and returned the GTX 1070 i bought and got my EVGA GTX 1080 FTW2
Thats leaves me with MSI and Zotac and i dont like the look of the Zotac cards all that much but the MSI Gaming Trio looks great

So how is the MSI software? i really liked how Gigabyte´s software worked and looked so its a shame the card was broken
Maybe i should give them another try as their cards are the cheapest?

Yes newegg lets you cancel anytime prior to it actually shipping.

A lot of people are crying about preordering without benchmarks but IMO it's pretty safe. Unhappy with the results/leaks later next month, just cancel.

ordered 1 of each and im currently on a single 1080ti but have a second one i can plug in will do a comparasion (withou RT bs) and keep the best setup

Just in case you don't know, the standard XC (non Ultra) is a 2 slot card. The Ultra is a 2.75 slot card that uses their ICX2. I dunno if the $100 increase in price is worth it but going from the 1080 Ti, every 2 slot variant was hot and loud.

The software is needed to make my own fan profiles and also needed to change the lights
The Gigabyte software was pretty good and easy to understand where the EVGA software is primitive clucky and confusing

Ah ok. That makes sence. I'm using watercooling, so I don't need that. Btw, you can also create fan profiles in afterburner.
I was thinking of going EVGA this year because you don't lose warranty when you install a waterblock.

I am not buying EVGA again not because of the cards or the company but because i dislike their software very much and i also think their new coolers are ugly as sin
Asus is way overpriced or at least the cards for pre orders are so its either Gigabyte again which i have had mixed luck with or try MSI for the first time

But the prices of the new RTX cards are a ripoff so i might be looking at the RTX 2070 instead of the 2080
Or i might keep my GTX 1080 who knows as i will need to see some benchmarks to make up my mind

My brother in law has the MSI 1080 TI Lightning and never had problems with it. It seems to run very cool for aircooling (barely hits 60°C)
My Asus 1080 strix runs very good and clocks to 2125mhz on air and 2175mhz on water, but they are expensive. I bought mine as an open box and got a 200euro discount on it back in the days.

I'm looking to EVGA since I hear they have the best warranty and you don't lose it when installing watercooling block. MSI and Asus don't give warrenty anymore in Europe once the sticker over the screws has been removed...

I pre ordered a 2080 from Nvidia which as of today you still can pre order one . I went with the FE cause now with the dual Fans and cherry picked processor they should out perform the custom cards ...

Decided to cancel my pre-order and go with a asus strix 1080Ti instead, after selling my 980Ti pretty much only paid $450US for it. Can't go wrong there.

Well I decided to cancel my nvidia 2080 order cause its 850 with tax and I just got a 1080 ti For 520 330 cheaper I cant justify paying the 330 extra since most games wont even be good with ray tracing for a while ... I hope this was a smart decision

Most likely the right decision.
The 2080 etc cards are rebrands of the Volta/deep learning geared hardware. The cloud GPU compute business has exploded and that is where all of the money is, making the crypto nonsense just a tiny blip.

Don't believe me? Recently,NVIDIA strongly worded their terms of service to prohibit their GPUs for use in datacenters.

Raytracing? Who wants that? Pixar? Sure. Gamers, hell no (have you ever experienced choppy frames? and then turned on motion blur? and maxed antialiasing? great, if you like that feeling, just multiply the input lag by a small number and raytracing will hit the spot oh so well).


Nvidia is not telling you that you can do raytracing on a secondary GPU(s)...which don't necessarily have to be the same as the main GPU.

And you might say, ooh but the 2080 Turing GPUs have these special units called "Raytracing cores"....

pshaw. All those are rebranded tensor multiplying units ie tensor cores from Volta.

Why do they need those? They really don't. But the feature is sold as a raytracing core which all it essentially does is something called "ML denoise" (machine/deep learning denoise).Essentially, all rendered raytraced scenes are grainy, then postprocessing is applied to each frame (oh yea, input lag for you) to denoise the frame. Why buy the 2080 TI? Because you think 15% more frames over the 1080TI is worth 1.2K? As opposed to overclocking the 1080Ti to beat that.
There will be no games worth playing with raytracing for next 5 years. And if there is, there is nothing precluding you from running raytraced games on current hardware. No current games will have it coded in. No incentive. Why break a "working" game to introduce a feature that will make game play worse and alienate 98% of your gamers.

Right, and the preorder thing...here is how these little schemes play out.
1) Create hype
2) No objective data, open for a limited time only, superselect, no=guarantee-that-you-may-get-one,preorder.
3) Release a tiny amount of cards to a few people, roughly leaving 90% or more preorders unfilled
4) Release an appologee Re:yields being low, hard to get quality as high as needed, embargo from a foreign nation, etc.
5) Announce that preorders will be released in a tiered approach, creating more hype and uncertainty
6) In the meantime, the few sheep that got product will experience something that is a cross between an "Emperor that just got his new clothes" and the kid from an Eddie Murphy skit that gets to buy ice cream and tease the kids that can't get ice cream. This further instills jealousy and unwarranted promotion.
7) Exponentially release the flood of cards which were good to go from day 1, ultimately depleting the entire run as soon as possible, before the lukewarm performance is widely known (think Frontier Edition card from AMD).

Now that you know, do the right thing, whichever that may be.

Game engines moving toward real time ray tracing is just progress, and the RTX is the jumping off point. The BIG problem is that people with high end cards are use to gaming at 144 FPS, and I really doubt ray tracing anything will be much beyond 60 FPS at least for a few generations. That motion difference will mean more than visual quality.

All that being said, new technology excites me, and I ordered two Nvidia RTX 2080 cards with EK blocks and plates. Its not practical nor sensible, but that's not the point.

On the software note...I read an article a day or so ago that said Nvidia was going to be including overclocking into the RTX version of GeForce Experience. Interestingly, a demo was done using EVGA's new software, but Nvidia said the function would be the same in their software/driver. I would guess the partner software would give you access to proprietary features as to sensors and lighting.
