Question: How much faster is the RTX 3090 than the RTX 3080?
Answer: We don't yet for sure, but everything points to the 3090 being around 20% faster overall. Both the 3080 and 3090 are based on the GA102 ("8N" custom Samsung process, 627mm² die size). The RTX 3090 features a full fat die with 20.6% more CUDA cores, SMs, TMUs, tensor cores, and RT cores. It also offers 23.2% higher memory bandwidth thanks to its 384-bit memory bus. Target boost clocks are close, but with a slight edge to the 3080. All this amounts to the 90 card being around 20% faster under ideal conditions, but at a 114% higher cost.

So is the Founders Edition “compact” board layout considered reference? Are the AIBs going to have an “AIB reference” or is it up to each of them to cook up their own custom board layouts? Also wonder how this will impact water blocks if there isn't a real reference layout?
