Old build vs. New build?

I have the option of swapping out a Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P + G.skill Ripjaws + AMD Phenom II 550 (which I plan on unlocking to quad-core) with my current build. Which would perform better? Note this is a gaming build and that I can switch back to my current build any time I want.

If you do manage to unlock to a quad core (and there's no guarantee) it won't be at the original clock speed. The Intel setup is a very nice gaming machine, especially if you OC the E8400 up to 3.8-4.2GHz. The AMD setup, with the CPU still a dual core, would be fairly comparable.

i hope you can unlock that dual core lol
the phenom ii would perform better when unlocked probably..
and why do you need a new build to play games when your old rig can play it just fine?
what games do you play/

Yes, my E8400 does overclock well. I believe it's a E0 stepping, or whichever's the one that overclocks the best.

I built some parts on sale on newegg for a HTPC, and I ended up with parts much, much more powerful than I originally planned (yet, I still saved money...) The HTPC was originally meant to play 1080p video at most, so even a 240 would be more than enough.
