Anybody have some performance comparisons on this? More specifically on SATA II and a addon controller with CACHE onboard.
I was just curious on how much more to expect if I went with an add on RAID controller.

Well, first we would need to know: what southbridge does your motherboard have? And what hard drives do you plan to setup in a RAID array? What type of RAID array will it be and how many drives will there be?

Generally speaking, for basic RAID 0 or RAID 1 setups the onboard controller on motherboards is more than sufficient. But when using two SSDs in RAID 0, you may run into a bottleneck depending on the SSDs.

Nice RAID controllers can be pretty pricey, so you can definitely be paying hundreds of $$$ for that extra ounce of performance. It also comes down to how much you're willing to spend for every bit of performance.

They'll all be in a RAID 0.
Can't remember the southbridge of the mobo though. It's an AMD board. I have a feeling that I may be saturating the onboard controller because I am getting ~430-450MB/s on my ATTO test. Shouldn't I be be able to at least hit 500MB/s? If I add the other 2 SSD's and not performance increase then my onboard is saturated. Right?
