Onboard X-Fi Drivers

So, my new ROG board has onboard SupremeFX X-Fi onboard. What am I supposed to install? The CD didn't have drivers on it, and ASUS' website only has VIA drivers under the audio option for this board.

The SupremeFX-X-Fi is a Pain in the rear. I've ripped the drivers from my motherboard cd since they are the same as yours and uploaded them to Filefront.

You have to install the Analog Devices SoundMAX drivers first, then install the X-Fi drivers on top of that. Why it couldn't be streamlined, I have no idea, but then again, I don't know why Asus still insists on including Creative hardware when they make their own sound solutions.

Oh, and for the love of pete, don't lose the product activation key that's on the sleeve of the motherboard driver disk. If you lose that, you won't be able to access any x-fi functionality. I had to replace the product key for mine by ordering a new driver disk, and it was a two month ordeal with the asus store. A complete nightmare. .

In the X-Fi.7z folder, run setup.exe, not asussetup.exe.

SB X-FI-MB software
SoundMAX software

Sweet. I will give it a shot. Rep+ for the suggestion. I agree it seems silly to not have an onboard Xonar, but whatever, they make the boards for a reason.

-EDIT-

What do I use to open a .7z? Winrar?

7Zip of course

Don't even need Winrar anymore. 7-zip is free and all I use for my archive needs.

Go to creative.com and run the auto-update thing. See if it picks it up and lists drivers.
yeah, sorry. I don't use winrar. Just 7zip. I guess I could have made it a bit more friendly and put them in a .zip file instead...
OK, is there a way to get it working in Windows 7? The only audio my PC is seeing right now is HDMI (which I don't have, so that's weird enough already) and nothing in the SupremeFX folder seems to install anything for me.
In the Vista folder, run setup.exe The Vista drivers work for 7. I just packed up the whole folder and subfolders since I didn't know exactly what files the installer would call for.

There *might* be updated SoundMAX drivers on the Asus support site. I've found that they have different versions for each board, even though the boards have the same sound card. I'm using the drivers that are on the Maximus II Gene downloads section.
My onboard sound card is listed as "Sound-Blaster PRO™ compatible", I've always trying to find out what the hell they mean by that... Any help lol? Sorry to hijack thread but I think that my question is somehow related

no, not quite the same problem. We both have the SupremeFX X-Fi card that comes with the motherboard, and the drivers for it are confusing.
When I try to run the Vista drivers, it says "These drivers do not support your system's hardware. If you have recently installed audio drivers restart your computer and try again." I have restarted, and nothing changed.

This probably won't work, but I want to try it anyway: right-click all of the .exe's you can find in what he gave to you and choose Properties > Compatibility tab > and choose like Vista Service Pack 2 (after checking that box).

If that doesn't make any difference, then include "Run as Administrator" without changing the Compatibility Mode. If that doesn't make any difference, then I don't know.

Yup, nothing doing as far as that goes... Stupid ASUS. I was beginning to like them with the 4 GHz and all that, but without basic functionality, it's useless.
So, here's the part where I feel ******ed...

I disabled the HD Audio in the BIOS, because I thought it only controlled the front panel connections, not the entire onboard audio set up... So, I downloaded the Windows 7 VIA audio drivers from ASUS, and they work fine on the headphone-out. Installing the X-Fi, and trying to see if I can get the Optical working for my DAC.

Wow, you have to install it over crappy onboard audio...why Asus, why?
Well when I get this board I'll probably just install an XFI card then and bypass this entirely

I'm curious though, as to how good the onboard XFI is vs an actual XFI card...

I think all it is is some of the software-based X-Fi stuff (EAX, Crystalizer, CMSS 3D, etc) on top of the onboard audio. I don't think it's X-Fi hardware, but I'm not sure.

From what I have heard, it's basically an Xtreme Audio. An Xtreme Audio is an X-Fi branded Audigy card. It uses the an audio processor that's almost no different from my Audigy 2 ZS. My XtremeGamer has the true "X-Fi" chip, and compared to the Audigy 2 ZS....well......... there IS no comparison. It's far superior to the Audigy 2 ZS.

So, it's my guess that this is the same way.

Well that settles that then, I'll pop in an Xtreme Gamer
