I am planning on buying a new processor, but I would like some advice. If you know your processors well, you could help me on this. I would like a processor that will help the performance of games like hl2, and will help programs run faster. Here is a 3.4 ghz processor i was looking at on ebay. Is this a good processor!?!?

LGA775
Supporting Hyper-Threading Technology
800 MHz Front Side Bus
1 MB L2 Cache
Woks with Intel 925X or 915 Express Chipsets
MM# 861594
FPO/Batch# L420A939
Comes with Heatsync / Fan in the box
Desktop Board D915PBL
ATX Form Factor
PCI Express Graphics x16
800 MHz FSB
Onboard RAID
Intel Pro 10/100 Lan
Up to 8 USB 2.0 Ports (4 back ports)
Intel High Definition Audio (Enables 7.1 Surround Sound)
Up to 3 IEEE-1394a (firewire) ports (1 on back)
DDR 2 533/400 SDRAM 4 Slots, dual channel (4 GB max)
Floppy connector
ATA 100/66 Connector
Four SATA150 ports (1.5Gb/s) and Intel Matrix Storage Technology (RAID 0/1)

Yeah, but for gaming, i wouldnt recommend the Intel 3.4Ghz, AMD is the way to go.

Get a 4000+AMD64 if your rich. =P

but a 3000+Will play well for HL2. but 4000+ of corse will play better, but 3000+ is equal to 3500+ when overclocked. so its your choice.

4000 is not good buy at all, u might as well get a FX53 instead...either a 3200 or a 3500 will probly be the best for u, as ure probly on a budget

Lol yeah, a crappy Intel board at that. And frankly, I wouldn't buy from a vendor that refers to a heatsink as a heat"sync"

I agree. If what you want is raw performance in gaming A64 is the way to go.

A few days ago Muffin posted a HL2 benchmark comp Intel VS Amd and the A64's were all on top.

With the A64 3000+ being the slowest of the A64's and still managing to beat the 1000 dollar 3.4EE.

Man EEs suck, where have you been? They're like a whole of .5% faster than an Prescott of the same speed.
2MB of L3 cache can't make up for raw processing power
