Started new build last week.

This project is being done on the 'play as you pay' system and on a limited budget so it may take a while to finish.

week of Jan 15
New A8V with Venice +3500 and Corsair XMS C2 2x512 Installed
OC'd to 250 x 10 but was unstable dropped back to 240 x 10
sandra mem BW at mid 5000s

Loaded temp at 45C

Stable operation with Prime95 'torture test' for 8+ hrs.

Managed to disable Acoustic Management on WD 300G 'value'
Increased Xfer rate from 37 to 51 MBs

Should I try to clock at 240 x 11 with the stock air ?

EDIT:
Turns out the sytem was not stable at all. Prime 95 would drop out after about 4 hours, and the system would not reset, along with other obvious instability issues.

AMD's stock HSF's arent too shabby, so I'd go for it.

Looks like you got a nice little setup coming along, keep it up!

Thanks Chipp, considering the bargain deals on this build so far, it's coming along great IMO.

UPDATE:
Fixed the miserable performance on the WD drive by disabling the acoustic management 'feature' went from 34 to 52 MBs according to Sandra. The access time improved dramatically
(the seagate wont do it), but it is running about 48 MBs according to Sandra.

Definitely must transistion to a SATA Raid x0 setup.

Upped the multi to x11 and am now clicking along fine at 2.64 Gig.

Stable so far 24/7 at about 45C loaded

Looks Good

The PS definitely needs to be next on the list, hopefully I can grab that OCZ modstream next week.

I was pretty let down about the locked pipes on my x850pro but it's still not a bad board at all at stock speeds

Woohoo!

Got my Thermaltake 'Shark' Chassis and OCZ Modstream 520W Today.

I am now typing this on this suhweet rig!

The Blue Led Fan on the OCZ PSU goes will with the blue theme of Thermaltakes fantastic FT Case.

Rounded my EIDE Cables and Installed all the Guts, went without a hitch.

I was having some random shutdowns and resets, I am hoping the prob was the stock PSU.

Next UP : H2O baby! oh yeah

OK, picked up a Zalman CPS9500 Cooler this evening and Installed it.

Went like a dream.

I am seeing a remarkable decrease in temps immediately, I expect even better performance once the AS5 sets up good. (30 hrs. or so)

I attached a couple of pics of the case with & without cover.

My G.Skill Ram will be in tomorrow

Then it will be time to pump it up a little

O.K. my little sister's Compaq POS finally died.

I talked her out of buying another POS at the Worst Buy in favor of a custom rig for not too much money, (like almost nothing).

She will get my ASUS mobo with the Venice and the Corsair XMS along with the x850.

She will provide the case psu and opticals

and I will get:

DFI Lanparty UT nF4 UltraD Skt 939
and
Opty 148 Venus
and
XFX Geforce 7800GTX

I read on newegg that some people had problems with the 7800GTX and the mobo fan.

Am I heading in the right direction or should I go a different route.?

Got the Sticks but encountered problems eerily similar in nature to the Corsair.

There is a discussion about that here

I suspect the Mobo is just not up to it

anyways, I am hoping the G.Skill ZX will act a little better with the DFI mobo.

O.K. The limited budget and 'play as you pay' has gone out the window.

Enter Plan B.

Some unforseen windfall benefits (Read: Bonus and IRS Refund) and the timely death of my lil' sisters' Compaq POS

combined with

less than stellar performance of the ASUS A8V,

has prompted me to invest in a nice DFI Mobo, a 3700 Sandy, the XFX 7800GTX and 2 Sata HD.

After a very late evening and some minor bugs, SUCCESS! (with a little help from our good friends over at the street)

The new system is up and running, (albeit at stock speeds, for now)

Thanks to all of you here at the best OC forum on the web, hands down

Now, time for some more software installation and such......

Yes she is, she has great kids, a great husband and an OK brother.

Besides, I just hate when good people have to use crappy machines.

Thx Duke and Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response, I was out of town on business and the acommodations that I reserved explicitly said "Hi Speed Internet" which turned out to be a phone jack.

Oh, well It's just my luck.

Thanks, I need to do a little more tweaking, but overall this rig is running very nicely. The DFI mobo really makes a difference inasmuch as stability goes.

With a the great folks here, It shouldn't be a problem to eek out a little more performance.

Pics coming as soon as I learn a little bit more about cable management

OK.

I was able to get an OCCT stable OC at 270 x 10, 3-3-3-6 @ 2.7v.

I bumped up the LDT and Chipset voltages and reduced my Vcore (she was running a little hot, and bumping the vcore has had no beneficial results as I can tell)

the key was 3-3-3-6 vs 3-3-3-5 and 9/10 divider to get OCCT stable.

the big step to x11 should be the next logical step however I haven't had much luck so far above 2.8 gig.

but not to worry, these things take time

Well, Orlando Fl isn't exactly the business capital of the world, I can give them that much. I suppose installing DSL on all the condo's they have would be pretty expensive.

I was able to get halfway thru F.E.A.R. (which runs like buttah, on the new build
no frames under 40 FPS max 220 fps min 126 fps on the benchmark )

I think my traveling adventures are over for at least another year, Thank God!
