i'm currently looking at this hitachi drive but never in my life ever owned a hitachi brand lol, i know their not as popular as western digital or seagate so is hitachi just as reliable as the other more popular brands?

Did you know that the Xbox 360's use hitachi hard drives? yes they are reliable i use my xbox 360 HDD as an external has been working good for 2 years nw.

Hitachi is just as good as WD and Samsung, and better than Seagate. I have two of them in my system and they are the two best drives I have.

I was thinking about getting a 500gb WDC black, but the hitachi 1tb is only 10 bucks more... Are they slower?

I don't know about the 1TB, but either of my 2TB Hitachi 7K2000's will leave a 500 Cav Black in the dust.

my first hard drive was from hitachi and it is still running in my system for almost 5 years now. never had an issue with it at all.

That's not a bad price for a 3 TB..

I have two of their 1 TB drives in my fileserver (members of a 6x 750 GB RAID5 array).
Have been reliable (3 months on one, 1 month on the other, granted that's not a huge amount of time) and are quicker than anything else in the box.

I love them! I prefer to use Hitachi more then any thing els. I have had my Hitachi for 3 years now.

I've been using Hitachi ever since I first heard it used to be IBM. Just remember one thing, popularity does not = reliability.

Newegg has the rpm incorrectly listed, the correct number should be 5940rpm.

ive got a 1tb hitachi and IMO is the best bang for buck hard drive, its never failed me and the I/O are decent
