Opinions on PNY XLR8 9800GT EE

This is the card I just purchased.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0xlr8%209800gt

Anyone have any opinions or thoughts on this card, good, bad, or ugly?

Note: This is the "Energy Efficient" model, meaning its underclocked to 550/1375.

Chipset
Chipset Manufacturer NVIDIA
GPU GeForce 9800 GT
Core Clock 550MHz
Shader Clock 1375MHz
Stream Processors 112

Memory
Memory Clock 1800MHz
Memory Size 1GB
Memory Interface 256-bit
Memory Type GDDR3

Can I clock it back up to the original 9800GT specs safely? It has no 6pin connector, it just draws power through the PCI-E.

Well I have the 8800GT version. It's ok I guess. Stock cooler sucks as5 though.
unless you hae doubts about your PSU or care about power consumption that much I wouldn't bother, prolly doesn't overclock too well b/c of the power and it'd be cheaper to get a used 8800gt or 8800gts for cheaper
Would've been better off with a 5750 or 5770 honestly.

Only one way to find out, man. Watch the temps, of course

Bingo. I didn't want to spend more than like $100.

First, isn't it normal to research a product first and then buy, instead of buying first and then researching it?
(unless taking advantage of a hot BF deal or Bing cashback)

Second, you probably can OC it a bit. Exact results will vary, of course, like any overclocking endeavor. To not require the 6-pin PCIe power plug means that not only was it underclocked, the GPU is also running at a lower voltage than "normal" 9800 GT. Don't know about other manufacturers, but IIRC the BFG version is rated at 66W TDP. The PCIe slots are nominally rated for 75W power output, so you have a few extra watts to play with.

There is only a very small difference in performance with the green/eco edition of 9800gt vs the normal 9800gt.
so there really is no need for overclocking just for a 5 fps gain
