EDIT: decided to skip this one, he said the mem couldn't go over 300 no matter what he tried.

9800 NP flashed to XT bios. Added passive heatsink Aerocool VM-101.
stock 9800 NP 325/290
as is shipping flashed to XT bios @ 412/300

UPDATE: Now I'm watching a few (9800 Pro, 9800 Pro AIW, 9800 XT) that are all refurbished. Most are OEM, but AIW comes with all the goodies. What are you guys opinions on refurbed vid cards? I only need it to last for 2 yrs or so max and I do plan on overclocking it but not severely. Thanks again for all your input/suggestions/help gang.

It sounds like a possiblity that this is true just watch out. If the cost is anywhere near $200 i'd go with a 6800nu and try to unlock the extra piplines. This is a faster option.

right now it would cost about $75 if I won the auction right now plus shipping. It's either this or try to win an auction on a 9800 XT 256meg that's cheap
thanks for your help and please comment more if you so choose

That sounds like a helluva deal for 75 bucks, I just hope it runs like you hope it will..

make sure you contact the seller and find out if there's something resembling a warranty...you dont want to buy the card and install it and find its just a np 9800...

$75 get it. Great value. I doubt that their is a warranty espcially bacause it reflashed and modded. Just make sure the seller guarantees it will not be DOA. And has a good REP.

Rep looks good. he said he guarantees it'll work. only thing I don't know is whether it's 128 or 256 meg? and if all 8 pipelines are unlocked? still new to the bios flashing. know about oc'ing though. thanks again guys for continued help.

also looking at x800 Pro 256 MB it's a refurb. not sure if it's 128 or 256 bit memory interface??

All 9800 have the same number of pipelines(8). Only diffrence is core and memory speed and OC in conrol panel.

According to ATI the x800Pro should all have 256bit memory interfrace.

Thanks I'm playing auction hawk trying to find good deals. Leaning towards the pre-flashed one I first talked about. Otherwise it's hold out and try to get a steal on a A) x800 (whichever type) ideal, but not likely B) 9800 XT (256 MB version) possible but gonna be tough C) 9800 Pro 256 MB D) 9800 Pro AIW I assume no matter what if it's 9800 series I want it on the r360 core?

You got it all 9800 have the r360 core. One note the 9800 AIW you might not be able to flash to an XT because the BIOS might be diffrent because of the TV tunner and stuff.

Aren't XT specs 412/365?
And I'll say here again that trying to unlock pipes is not a very good idea, they're disabled for a reason. And thinking that it's a real possibility is nieve, I read on a survey that only about 38% of 6800 cards can unlock all 16 pixel pipes, and only 4% are able to get all 16 pixel and 6 vertex pipes.

I appreciate all the help guys. Basically I'm trying to find a sub-$100 deal/auction on a solid, overclockable upgrade to my 9600 Pro. I am hoping to find a deal on an auction. Please feel free to let me know if you find any good deals or cards you reccommend to me. I'd like to stay 9800 Pro or above and definitely the 256-bit memory interface. thanks again.

9800NP was flashed to a 9800XT bios! Added a passive heat sink Aero Cool VM-101 (a $40 heat sink). Card once had a TEC/PELT installed and still has some residual PCB safe silicone.

  • 9800NP 325 Core /290 MEMORY

Flashed using a 9800xt bios clock speeds are defaulted now 412 Core/300 MEMORY! MAX OC can be 434 Core/ 325 Memory (Using a TEC for these speeds) Please don't OC past the default 412/290 without adding a fan to the heatsink. · Bus: AGP 8X
    Max 3D Resolution: 2048x1536 at 85h 16.7M colors
New SMARTSHADER 2.1 technology allows users to experience complex, movie-quality effects in next-generation 3D games and applications
Supports DirectX® 9.0 and the latest OpenGL® functionality
256-bit memory interface removes hardware performance bottleneck and provides end users with faster 3D graphics
    Ports: DVI + VGA + S-video Out

AERO COOL PASSIVE HEATSINK VM-101. Designed for ATI 9800 series video cards. Removing 70 watts of heat! Will take up one or two PCI slot's next the AGP port. This heatsink is LARGE. Condition: Opened working condition. Back of card you will see black residue. This is a neoprene pad to prevent condensation when using a TEC. This will not have any effect on performance or stability.
That is alll the info and pics from the auction for you guy's final evaluation. it's a flashed 9800 to XT 128 MB 256-bit with no fan, but has the aero cool giant heatsink. Guaranteeed no DOA and seller has good rep. all for $75 just looking for that last minute new opinion/perspective/etc. thanks again for all the advice and assistance gang.
