I just did this... did I make a mistake? There are certain aspects of the X2 that I like so far. The multitasking ability is truly amazing. I'm always doing 50 things at once and it's nice to have 0 lag since I have 0 patience. But my overclock is only to 2.6Ghz. My Opteron went to 2.86 stable and got my superpi score down to 31.87 seconds. Now I'm sitting at like 40. Since my multiplier is locked at 10, I'm limited now by my board and RAM's FSB. I've read that some of the reasons for low scores on certain benchmarks in XP64 is because none of them are optimised for 64 bit computing, and if they were you'd see better scores, but I don't know how much of that is true.
Anyway, I'm curious as to what people think. Any and all opinions are welcome.

Pshh, nah man. So superpi is 9 seconds faster...

Which one multitasks better? They game the same, and the X2 games better on multi-threaded games, and the X2 is more future proof.

I have hit 2.8Ghz suicide before, but 2.6Ghz is my everyday overclock speed. And it feels SO much faster than my 3500+ at 2.5Ghz. But yeah, I think superpi is pretty much useless as far as general system computing goes.

I have the x2 3800 and the 148 Opty and I like the dual core better for general usage. It folds both cores at 100% and I game with it also and have no speed issues and I only run it at 2200MHz. It is in a Micro ATX build now so heat is the issue. As for gaming performance well I noticed a little drop in Frames compared to the 148 which I run at around the 2800 MHz mark depending on cooling used and the climate but when you have plenty of frames anyway what is the difference. 60 FPS is 60 FPS wether you run a C2D 6800 @ 4K MHz or a 3000+ at 2K MHz the performance difference gaming may not be all that great. You may drop to 55 FPS but who cares. As long as you can still keep up descent performance then you have no worries. You will enjoy the dual core with your vid card
Super PI is not the be all end all of performance, it is a synthetic benchmark like all the rest, 3d05 and so on. They are great for tuning but when it comes to the crunch you do not need to be doing 15 second Super PI times to be able to play BF2 at very good frame rates.

Enjoy your CPU mate.
