Opteron 165 and the Abit AV8

I just have a quick question or two:

Can I run the opetron processor in my Abit AV8? I updated the bios to the latest and it's 939 pin.

Also, if I can install the opetron, can I also do the 64x2 4400? How do this processor's compare--they seem to be both dual core but how are they different?

thanks!

Yes, you can run any Skt 939 CPU on your mobo. The only real difference between the CPUs is the clock speed and extra multipliers of the X2. Not really a problem if you're overclocking.

off the top of your head, is there a difference in memory controllers between the x2's and opterons?

im asking because my winchester (athlon xp 3000) has a crappy memory controller.

thanks!

My Opteron 165 has the best IMC I've dealt with on Skt 939. Got higher speeds than on any of the single core Opterons I've tested or a San Diego 4000+. Can't generalise to all CPUs though, but I'm very impressed with this one.

I'm installing an opteron 165 and new corsair ram when fedex gets here! *paitently waits
You gotta love the dual core opterons, twice the cache, and great overclockers....only negative is the x9 multi, but that's not really a problem cause max is about 300x9 with that chip anyways..
should be arriving any minute so I'll fill in my specs and post back if I have a problem

update: how do i find the stepping (cpu-z)? This is my first time looking for one specifically.

also, here is my new ram, and upgrade from crappy valueram: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.c...id=1907&page=1

it will be on the top of the processor, the second line of numbers/letters. Should be something like CABYE 0538 FPMW
